5 Teacher Goals… My goal for this year is to provide a rich learning experience in Health Science, while empowering my students to want learn more. I encourage all of my students to be engaged and to ask us questions related to the content during class. I am not a mind reader! Communication is KEY!

6 Class Content INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS MEDICINE & ATHLETIC TRAINING 2E is designed for individuals interested in athletics and the medical needs of athletes. Sports medicine, athletic training and anatomy and physiology Functional concepts of the human body and then apply this knowledge to sports medicine and athletic training. Nutrition, sports psychology, kinesiology and therapeutic modalities

7 What Class Fee Includes $35.00 Due by Friday – 09/01/2017)
American Heart Association CPR Training This 6 week course will include: Basic First Aid Adult / Child / Infant – CPR, AED, Choking Upon completion of this 6 week course, students will receive an AHA CPR Heart Savers Certification Card Students who have not paid class fee will not be able to receive their card until payments are received.

8 Textbook The Textbook is Introduction to Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, 2nd Edition (France, C., Robert, W. (2004). Introduction to Sports Medicine & Athletic Training. Thomson-Delmar Learning). Students can access the online powerpoints provided in Sacramento’s Webpage.

9 Class Time Expectations
Entering the classroom: You must enter the Media Center before the bell rings. Come in quietly, grab a textbook and take out your notebook to begin the bell work. Tardies: You will be sent to the office if you show up without a pass. ***HERO Program… Exiting the classroom for dismissal: Prior to leaving the Media Center you must make sure that all classroom materials are put away properly and your area is clean. The class will not be dismissed if it is messy. Bathroom Breaks: Unless there is a medical emergency, bathrooms must be used before or after class. No restroom breaks will be allowed during lecture, quizzes or exams. Drills: Students must orderly walk to the back field and stand in a line quietly behind the teacher until told to reenter the classrooms. Those students who get lost will receive a consequence.

10 Classroom Rules Electronics: POWERED OFF! Absolutely no cellphones or other distracting material allowed during class time, unless permission is granted to do so. I will take it away!!! Come prepared mentally, emotionally and physically each day and ready to learn. NO FOOD! ONLY WATER in closed container/bottle Be On Time!

11 Student Behavior Expectations
RESPECT! Be respectful to teachers, classmates and to the classroom. Be Independent and Responsible! by completing assignments, doing your own work, participating in discussions and team learning, bringing all supplies to class, turning in work on time. Listen, pay attention, and participate. Come prepared mentally, emotionally and physically each day and ready to learn. Be organized! by keeping binder and notebook neat and up to date. All assignments must have a number, title, date, book name and page number. Be Honorable! by helping others when needed, staying focused, and doing assigned work. TAKE INITIATIVE!

12 Required Materials: Required Materials: Students are held responsible for coming to class prepared and will be required to have his/her folder by the end of the 2nd week of school for participation points. The required notebook will be used daily to record learning objectives, note-taking, and assignments. 1.     1 Plastic Duo-Tang Folder 2.     College-Ruled Notebook Paper 3.     Pen/Pencil 4.     Access to the internet 5.     Access to a printer

14 Assignments It is mandatory that you place the heading at the right hand corner of all assignments that are turned in. Points will be taken off of any assignment that is missing the proper heading. On any assignment a student is caught cheating, the result will be an automatic zero and parents/guardians will be contacted. Cheating is defined as you are looking around or talking when there are tests out – even if you’re finished. Make-up work is allowed for full credit grade for excused absences. Make-up work is allowed for unexcused absences, however, there is a 10% reduction in the grade for homework/classwork, and a 60% will be the highest grade earned for tests and major projects that meet standards or proficiency. For example a student makes up a test and earns a 95, a grade of 60 will be recorded because the absence was unexcused. A student is absent the day a research paper was due and earns an 80 on the paper, a grade of 60 will be recorded because the absence was unexcused. Plagiarism will also not be tolerated and will also receive an automatic zero
