Provide a framework for the government It is the highest authority in the land It is the basic law of the U.S. Powers of all branches come from the Constitution

The Preamble The opening section of the Constitution tells why the Constitution was written. These words concisely and clearly show that the power of the government comes from the people.

To Form a more perfect Union
To unite the states so they can operate as 1 nation for the good of all.

To Establish Justice Make sure all citizens are treated equally by a system of fairly created laws and courts

To Ensure Domestic Tranquility
Maintain peace and order, protecting life and property

To Provide for the Common Defense
Be ready militarily to protect this country and its citizens from attack

To Promote the General Welfare
To Help people live healthy, happy and prosperous lives

Article I : Legislative Branch Framers intended that the legislative branch should take the leading role in government. Says Congress is made up of 2 houses; Senate and the House

Article I : Legislative Branch Describes how members of each house will be chosen. Describes what rules are to be followed in making laws Lists specific powers which has and does not have.

Article II: Executive Branch Provides for an executive, or law enforcement branch of the government. Explains how these leaders are elected and can be removed from office Describes presidents powers and duties

Article II: Executive Branch Describes the duties as commander in Chief. Duties dealing with other countries Describes how the president can appoint certain government officials

Article III: Judicial Branch Calls for a judicial branch to interpret and see to it that the law is fairly applied. Calls for one ”Supreme Court” and lower courts as Congress sees necessary.
