1 Media Enterprise Resources Planning
M.E.R.P Media Enterprise Resources Planning Presented by Marco Taddei

2 Customer Needs optimize internal workflows among the different areas of a company organization media resources management system to take care of the entire asset lifecycle work orders creation work orders and resources tracking operational cost tracking manage files and rights integrated solution I’m not talking only about metadata or a simple file management, what really makes the difference is the whole process management and asset lifecycle tracking: financial management, supply chain and customer relationship management, deal and contract management, work orders, production, dubbing, ingest, editing, indexing, subtitling, resource allocation, operational costs, air sales, users access rights and allowed operations for each one, digital rights, multi format and multi platform content delivery, licensing and rights management, domestic and international sales and distribution, sales and billing. 2

4 M.E.R.P Organize the Activities
M.E.R.P organize and track your activities plan your resources connect all your resources. It’s hardware independent allows you to work better and faster it is safe ! ....that’s why a data mover working on simple watchfolder concept, cannot match with to present and future customer needs Of course a simple media manager data mover solution is not useful and is not enough, That’s the importance of the innovative M.E.R.P (Media Enterprise Resource Planning) concept introduced by Etere to implementing an all-in-one, cost-effective solutions tailored for broadcasters and media companies to support an increasing demand of efficiency, flexibility and security while minimizing operational costs. All that is possible also because Etere uses a single dbase so THE CONTENT is the single unit to manage, not the file 4

5 M.E.R.P is into Etere’s DNA
A single redundant dbase sharing info among all applications Workflow-based applications Tapeless reception Integrated archiving system Media Asset Management Hires & Proxy transcoding Web & NLE integration Web services for advanced integration with 3rd-party tools Broadcasters and media organizations require an user-friendly interface that operates in a paperless approach to control resources, processes, costs and a flexible tool to change inefficient workflows easily A media organization that today that do not have a solution like that, can find itself with several software applications and solutions management for each department (often not compatible) that do not interact and do not share data to each other. The result is redundant info (sometime not “coherent”), expensive and time-consuming processes, low reliability and low efficiency of the business chain. 5

6 What’s in a Broadcaster’s M.E.R.P System
Workflow Media Asset Management Automation Archiving Scheduling Air sales BMS/ long term planning News Automation Web & NLE integration 6

7 You can design Etere system as you wish
Workflow You can design Etere system as you wish

8 Etere Workflow Etere approach is unique
It combines IT based workflow technologies with the management of video content Etere workflow can be fully customer designed It use all the Etere technologies for redundancy and load balancing Easy to use, easy to control

9 Fully Customizable Workflows
Broadcasters can plan the entire program life cycle through workflows as a series of steps that can be closely integrated with channel management, content acquisition, and production processes. That’s create an extended integration with the company production facilities (newsroom, production, postproduction, playout ect.) administration tools (scheduling, planning, CRM and Business Intelligence) with a multichannel/multiplatform delivery media content. Etere allows to customize workflows to fit real needs ensuring a complete control over procedures, approval processes and overall system management

10 User-friendly Interface
An intuitive interface allows to create streamlined and accurated workflows The workspace area is divided in three main sections to allow a practical use of its components The workspace permits to graphically create and edit workflows just by dragging and dropping the block actions intended to be used

11 Restore for Broadcast In this example you have one playout server, one disk storage, Hsm tape library, another sever used for ingest You wish to have a priority restore Disk storage Ingest server Hsm And an error and SNMP message if it goes wrong

12 Example “restore to on-air”

13 TV Content Workflow You can design any workflow for your video files management In this example you align the operation of Set as Not to broadcast Content check Automatic QC Manual QC Set to broadcast Archive to HSM If the content is wrong will be deleted and an sent other than message

14 TV Content Workflow For example once a content arrives several tasks must start as ingest, indexing, promo creation, editing, file format conversion, subtitling, archiving and delivering 14

15 Send File to Website Simply select the list of the asset
And attach a workflow

16 How to Use Simple attach and start the workflow to an asset
A set of workflow is automatically executed When you ingest When you transfer a file via Etere web When you wish to retrieve from Etere web When a file is discovered by Etere activesync When you publish a schedule Or selecting one or multiple assets

17 Jobs and Priorities Quality of service is extremely important, that means reducing or avoiding redundant manual operations on files, data corruption, unauthorized content access and expensive hardware need creating at the same time new synergies throughout the company and optimizing the use of important resources (editing suites, dubbing rooms, special equipments) Those task must be managed and tracked inside the same system that manages video because they are part of the metadata. The Etere Data mover application permits to see on real-time which workflows are running, also allowing to kill processes and modify their priorities

18 Track Your Workflows The search engine allows to track all workflows for all assets, it permits to: - Easily check the status of transcoding workflows, Narrow the search by specifying the exact action and the person who launched the workflow, Preview the workflow to be searched.

19 Check Status on Asset Form
Active workflow Workflow status log

20 Easy to Use Easy to Check
A powerful tool as Workflow must be easy to use and easy to check If you wish to know how many assets are in a workflow or in a selected status ? Simply perform a search in extended search tool Any combination is available and also a graphic preview of every workflow Who is in charge of content check can list all the assets he needs to control from the standard asset form search

21 Search by Workflow

22 Workflow Search By workflow: All assets with selected workflows
By action : All assets that stay in the selected Action in any workflow By workflow and status: All assets with workflow in the selected status BY workflow and action: BY status and action: 22

23 Media Asset Management
A complete MAM is always present in ETERE

24 What is an Asset? An asset is made up of 3 key elements: Video content
Descriptive Metadata Rights information

25 Media Cockpit – Video Content

32 SMPTE Dictionary

33 Multiple Metadata Schemes
Create profiles for specific groups of assets, and inside each profile, different data tabs It ensures managing custom metadata for different asset types A proper SMPTE Metadata section allows to define eventually useful metadata (e.g.: 'comments', 'descriptions', ‘ancillary rights', etc

37 Hierarchical Metadata
- Create a single project - A project can contain various items - Each item can have various versions Assets can be managed under a hierarchical structure

38 Frame By Frame Metadata

46 Search

47 Search Engine Capabilities
Simple Exact phrase Proximity with NEAR Logical operators Synonyms

48 Boolean Search Features
The following examples demonstrate how to search using Boolean full-text operators: apple : Find assets that contain the word 'apple' in any of the selected fields. apple OR banana : Find rows that contain at least one of the two words. apple AND banana : Find rows that contain both words. apple AND NOT banana : Find rows that contain the word "apple" but not "banana". apple* : Find rows that contain words such as "apple", "apples", "applesauce", or "applet". "apple banana" : Find rows that contain the exact phrase "apple banana" (for example, rows that contain "apple banana juice" but not "apple with banana juice"). apple near banana : Find rows that contain the word "apple", but if the row also contains the word "banana", rate it lower than if row does not. An intuitive “Full-text” function to search for assets on all database fields

49 Search Profiles Manage an unlimited number of “search filters profile” to speed up the entire retrieval process

50 Federated Search local external

51 Export Saved Searches The following examples demonstrate how to search using Boolean full-text operators: apple : Find assets that contain the word 'apple' in any of the selected fields. apple OR banana : Find rows that contain at least one of the two words. apple AND banana : Find rows that contain both words. apple AND NOT banana : Find rows that contain the word "apple" but not "banana". apple* : Find rows that contain words such as "apple", "apples", "applesauce", or "applet". "apple banana" : Find rows that contain the exact phrase "apple banana" (for example, rows that contain "apple banana juice" but not "apple with banana juice"). apple near banana : Find rows that contain the word "apple", but if the row also contains the word "banana", rate it lower than if row does not.

52 Tapeless Reception

53 Tapeless Workflow Librarian knows a new asset must arrive
It creates the basic metadata. Assign this asset to the sender (Agency, producer, production company) The sender login in Etere tapeless reception See the assets you are expecting Upload the files and complete metadata As soon the upload is complete a confirmation is sent to the sender ( with optional attach a low-res copy of the file) The Librarian receive a confirmation 53

54 Tapeless Reception Sender of file Office in charge Arrive time limit

55 Online Delivery of Contents
The client can consult only those assets assigned to him to be ingested

56 Online Delivery of Contents
The client fill the relative predefined SMPTE metadata fields The client upload the video file A workflow is launched into the system and a confirmation is sent to both parties.

60 Enterprise Security Manager
A very robust list of rights that permits to manage permissions from accesses to workflows Users have no direct access to any file, they share the content not a watchfolder and this is the way broadcasters can achieve the higher security level they need reducing the risk of compromising critical data and valuable resources. Permissions can be assigned both to single users or to user groups Users can have different permissions on different stations

61 Etere M.E.R.P Approach Key Points
Etere M.E.R.P approach does not share a watchfolder, it shares content ! cross-platform, multi-format and multi-channel safe and controlled access hardware independent extend hardware infrastructure capability tapeless and paperless operation all-in-one solution lower cost of ownership !!! Broadcasters will benefit many advantages from this solution, that can be summarized as follow: Time and cost savings of content resources management, Low total cost of ownership new business opportunities complying with the market requirement, tapeless and paperless asset workflow, Follow corporate policies and best practices, Better end efficient collaboration between company areas and with partners, Total control on all the processes and costs inside the company. 61
