Faculty of Nursing at York University
Liaison with the Provincial Consortium and the Curriculum Committee via Deans and Directors Group. Consults and collaborates with Program Coordinator
Executive responsibility for the NP Program delivery at York University

9. York University PHCNP Program Coordinator
Provides counsel and support to students re: course plans, exams, appeals, and clinical placements and academic progress
Teaches NP courses
Consults with Placement Coordinator re: maintenance, recruitment and retention of student placements sites/preceptors
Communicates with university departments, consortium and students re: university policies and procedures (e.g. appeals)

10. Placement Coordinator
Sources, negotiates and confirms student clinical placements.
Customizes student placements to student learning needs and clinical placement availability.
Maintains and expands clinical partnerships through site visits, and recruitment of preceptors and placement sites.
Creates and coordinates student placement contract offers.

11. Program Assistant Provides support/counsel to students
Assists students with course planning
Communicates with university departments, and potential applicants
Books exams, exam reviews, classrooms

12. Technical Support
Assists with navigating on the NP Network (i.e., accessing newsgroups)
Assists with technical/equipment issues
Manages the Central Region Data Base (CRDB)

13. Course Faculty
Provincial Course Professors are responsible for the curriculum and course content
Utilize input from students, course directors (tutors/instructors), Curriculum Committee and others
Set the course content and exams
Responsible for releasing student grades to individual universities and students

14. Course Directors Employed by York University
Deliver the provincial curriculum and grade assignments and exams
Have input into course development and resources
Available for student support and counselling

15. Course Preceptors Provided clinical supervision
Are not employed by the York University
Have access to the course materials and can provide input to Course Professors and Course Directors
Provide evaluation of student performance in the clinical setting
Do not determine grades or pass/fail

20. Course Schedule Full Time and Part Time course schedules are fixed
Students are required to enroll in courses according to their specific fixed schedules
This allows for accurate forecasting for class sizes and faculty requirements

Pathophysiology: no clinical – biweekly online chat (every other Wednesday)
Roles and Responsibilities: no clinical – biweekly online chat (alternate Wednesdays)
AHAD I : 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hours clinical per semester
AHAD II : 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hours clinical per semester

Therapeutics I: 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hrs clinical per semester
Therapeutics II: 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hrs clinical per semester
Integrative Practicum: 455 clinical hours (35 hrs/wk, 6 hrs seminar biweekly over 13 week period (May-Aug)

All MScN/NP students MUST complete the Practicum Clinical Preparedness Permit prior the start date of the practicum

24. Clinical Placements
All placements are secured and maintained by the Placement Coordinator at York University
Students do not arrange their own placements
Placements secured without authorization will not be honored
Clinical Request Forms for AHAD, Therapeutics, and the Integrative Practicum are available on the NP Website; include current workplace and access to transportation

25. Clinical Placements
Placements take into consideration the learning needs of the student and the opportunities in the placement site.
Students will not be placed in their workplaces
Clinical placement takes place predominantly in primary health care settings but will also include hospitals and LTC facilities.

26. Clinical Placements Placements are not subject to student approval
Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements and any costs (parking, transit)
Access to a motor vehicle is not a pre-requisite but is strongly encouraged

27. Clinical Placements
Funds are available to supplement travel costs for students who are posted in specific rural and remote locales
Students will be notified regarding confirmed placements at least 2 weeks prior to the start of term in most cases.

The NP Central Registration is an on-line form completed by all students in the NP Consortium

The CRDB is not a registering system; you must ensure you are registered for your courses through your home university Registrar system
The CRDB provides access to NP courses

All students must register for courses at their home university
Program coordinator and program assistant can provide support with this registration process
