3
Types of Graphs to Expect
The most common type of graphs include: Line graphs Bar graphs Circle graphs Stem and Leaf Venn Diagrams
4
The Kaplan Method for Data Interpretation
Analyze the tables and graphs Approach strategically
5
Analyze the tables and graphs
Tables, graphs, and charts often come in pairs that are linked in some way Familiarize yourself with the information in both graphs and with how the two are related before attacking the problems Scan figures for the following Title Scale Notes Key
6
Approach strategically
Take a second to make sure you answered the right question Questions tend to become more complex as you move through a set. No matter how difficult graph questions appear at first glance, you can usually simplify single-answer multiple choice questions by taking advantage of their answer-choice format.

8
Tips and Tactics Use only the information given
Always use proper units Do you need to convert to thousands to millions? Do you need to convert to another unit? Be sure that your answer is reasonable Try to visualize your answer
9
Equations to Remember for Data Interpretation
Percent increase or decrease: (Actual change (original – new) / original number) (100%) This will give you the % increase or decrease Ratio X:Y = X/Y
