Principal Investigator: Christina Van Wingerden; DOS Unit Assessment , Training, and Special Projects Director: Eric Alexander Poster created by: Ben Spicer Unit Overview Mission Statement The Viking Union welcomes and engages students, faculty, staff, and guests in building a diverse community. We continually strive to enhance the Western Experience through supporting student leadership, campus involvement and creative expression, and by providing services and events in our venues. The Viking Union Organization staff and student employees support students co-curricular engagement through three domains 1) Student Activities; 2) Facilities and Services; and 3) Outdoor Recreation opportunities. In addition, the VU supports centralized Information Technology and Financial Management for the entire Dean of Students sub-division. The VU Organization supports community building and student leadership development by providing financial administration, program planning, event services, operational and facilities support, and management for all aspects of the Associated Students and student coordinated programs. Particularly, the AS Board of Directors and the programs they oversee, are supported through advising and numerous levels of administrative support. VU staff support students through major campus events, challenging campus dialogues, support numerous interactions and facilitate relationships across stakeholder groups (faculty, staff, administration, fellow-students, and community partners). In addition, the VU Organization provides outdoor recreational and watersport opportunities, student club and activities support, as well as an organic gardening program. Basic services supported by the VU Organization also include the WWU Child Development Center, WWU Recycle Center and Sustainable Action Fund programs, as well as meeting/event spaces and support for the entire campus.
