A collective roof edge protection system for use on flat roof construction to safeguard roof access by non-public personnel

WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS?
Two standards are generally considered depending on roof access requirements:
BS EN A – temporary edge protection systems for use during construction or maintenance of buildings and other structures
BS EN – Safety of machinery. The permanent means of access to machines (Stairways, stepladders and guard-rails)

Flat or inclined surfaces
Considers fixed to structure, or systems relying on gravity and friction to hold them in place
Class A is for static loads:
0.30kN at the weakest point with maximum deflection of 55 mm
Person leaning on or providing a handrail when walking beside
Collectively stop a person who is walking or falling towards the system
Safety nets can be used an in accordance with EN
Inclination of roof shall not deviate more than 150 from the perpendicular to the working surface
Minimum height from floor level is 1000 mm

Considers fixed to structure. There is no mention in the standard for systems relying on gravity and friction to hold them in place
Static loads:
More stringent tests than A
0.30 kn/m at the position of the post and in the middle of the handrail with deflection no more than 30 mm
Minimum height from floor level is 1100 mm
