Leveraging Land Degradation Neutrality through restoration initiatives The case of Madagascar Herivololona Ralalarimana, National Focal Point Development and implementation of strategies through national action programmes to achieve the objectives of the Convention in light of target 15.3 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

3 On the ground A lot of initiatives based on the principles of the Rio Conventions : Most initiatives focus on biodiversity conservation linked to countries’ richness Climate change action addresses mitigation (mainly avoided deforestation and land use/land use change) and adaptation of ecosystems and local communities Limited resources for Sustainable Land Management initiatives  small-scale actions Necessity of a global framework to capitalize all good practices identified at pilot scale LDN provides a framework to enhance synergies among Rio Conventions

4 National Action Programme (2013 updated)
12 out of 22 Administrative Regions affected by DLDD (30,24% of the country) Priority areas : 27,8% of affected areas Simulation : Extension of affected regions expected to increased to 40,79 % in the 10 coming years  More integrated approach needed to address land degradation at landscape level

Policy measures on territorial planning and sectorial strategies (integration of LDN as one of the main principles) Technical measures to achieve AFR100 commitments through sustainable agriculture ( ha per year) ha of FLR (green infrastructures)  Need of transformative projects at landscape scale
