2 What changes do we anticipate from SR?
OUTCOMES Families excited to visit the library – keep them coming year round. Increased test scores – growth in reading skills. Connected to community. Increased use of materials and other library materials. Lifelong habit – create a cycle where children grow up in library and return to bring own bring children to the library. Rediscovery of the library. Summer Learning.

Find ways to make our libraries and services more visible Can you Survive Lego Minecraft? Social Media contests – use hashtags Fit together the puzzle in the community – each branch has a square to decorate then send to Main where it will make a complete picture – this will show that we all work together. Designate a specific tag for entire summer reading to promote and get teens involved in sharing library information. More county-wide collaborative programs (like Gastonopoly and Pokemon) Duct Tape Cupcake Wars Build a Terrarium Bridge/Tower building contest Escape Room Science Experiments (STEM, STEAM, STREAM) Create mini gold course in library Cup stacking, create structures. Book tasting program (like speed dating – introduced to many kinds of books.)

Be a better community member / volunteering / community service. Film Club, Short Film contest Book trailer contest Book and movie club Project Runway – with recycled materials Live action Angry Birds Create fidget cubes Art Programs Murder Mystery – build a case Team building challenges

10 Children’s Programming Ideas
All summer long – add Lego blocks to structure for every book read. Read! Build! Play! with Legos – connect to ST theme Each week build a community with ST crowd – end with diorama of community kids live in. Build a Better World essay contest for upper elementary students Community Garden – families will be responsible for creating an organic garden each week. End summer with fruit and veggie feast! Peace / 60’s party – include a VW van to decorate and use as photo prop, STEM activity: Create a lava lamp, Peace Signs zentangle or color, make tie-dye shirt, costume party and decorate room with daisies and peace signs and a vinyl chandelier. Build a Fort program ST focused on conserving natural resources through awareness of conservation efforts revolved around water, food waste, recycled materials, plastic pollution. Passport to Latin America – represent different countries in Latin America through crafts and games.

11 Children’s Programming Ideas
Art Workshops with children based on book by Herve Tullet. Collaborative Art project involving whole family – display in library Tiny house nation challenge – using graph paper and math skills. Create forts using newspaper and masking tape Amazing Mazes program – build your own with Legos, solve problems to escape the maze, paper mazes. Stay healthy with experiments about germs Build your own toy workshop with fundamas (Flow Circus website), Bird Toy (Made by Joel website) and CD spinners with recycled materials. Book series party: Rosie Revere Engineer, You Choose books, David Macauley’s books. Weekly building challenges with different materials such as toothpicks, marshmallows, Legos, craft sticks, etc.
