MEP How to have influence
5
Influence your MEP We can write to your MEP and also show him your video What will we say to convince her? MEP = Member of the European Parliament Find out about MEPs – look it up under ‘European Parliament’ Some questions we might ask – What does an MEP do? Where do they work? Who is your MEP? Write a short biography of her or him. Who would like to be an MEP some day?
6
Choosing your topic What do we know already?
What questions do we have? What do we need to find out to answer these questions? Where can we find the information to answer these questions? Do we have an idea or a suggestion about how to do things better? Explain this – ‘Make a case’!
7
Preparation Research our topic, question and idea online
Keep a record of what we find interesting and useful Keep a record of what URLs we go to as well Make a Project Folder – give a name we will not forget!!!
8
Publish Online We will then use this information to make a short video to explain our ideas We can then publish it online so it is easy to share Remember to give it a good title! We will write a letter to the MEP we each choose – and include a link to our video
9
Making our video Research the question Prepare the images
Prepare the script Make the video Publish and send
10
About animation Think of a Stick figure on flicked pages
Made up of still photos and drawings First using PowerPoint to sort out your images Then using Moviemaker –ready to share And we can add sound Music – there are free sources online Using Word to write your script for a voice over Put it on the web or social media to share it
11
The Advocacy Video By now we have chosen and researched our topic
We have kept a record of what we find interesting and useful, and the URLs we visited Do we have an idea or a suggestion about how to do things better? Explain this – ‘Make a case’! This is what your Video is about
12
Words & Images We are going to collect together all the materials we need to make our video Words Images We can start with whichever we prefer These will be combined in the end
13
WORDS We are going to write a script Select some key points from your research and keep these Make a Word file for these Our script will be used to record a voiceover We will need 10 sentences which will give us a 1 minute long voiceover
14
IMAGES Also collect images we need to illustrate your ideas
Make sure these are all kept in one folder on our computer We can use photos, diagrams and graphs We could make our own drawings and diagrams too Name each image file VERY CAREFULLY
15
Preparing the images We are going to use PowerPoint to prepare the images We will use just the images but with no words Use the simplest PowerPoint template for this We will be making a sound recording of the words to add as a voice over to the final video
16
Images ready for Moviemaker
Converting PowerPoint The ‘Save As’ box will open. In the ‘Save As Type’ drop-down menu, select JPEG File Interchange Format and click Save. A selection box will open. Select the option Every Slide in this box It will appear in our folder as a new folder full of images – these are now ready Give this a name and put it our project folder
17
Making the Voice over We are going to record the voice over with an app First practice reading your script Decide who will read which bit When we are ready we will record the voices This makes a sound file we can use for our video Put it in our project folder
18
Preparing your audio files
We have made a recording of a voice over Now add it to our animation First make sure we have the right type of file for Movie Maker Go to to change the file type if we need to (follow the instructions). Download the result to our project folder and name it
19
MOVIE MAKER We now have a sound file and our images
We need to bring these images into Moviemaker – have this app ready and open Bring all these files into Moviemaker. (TIP: Match the images to the sound – they are easier to edit!!) Now we can edit this movie - add a Title and Credits. Your movie is ready to publish!!
20
Your movie is online We can publish our finished movie directly online from YouTube – OR Save the movie to our project file – (choose : File –save movie – recommended for this project) and then add it to whichever social media platform we like. OR Send the whole file via
21
Next… Now we wait for a reply!! Who will we contact next?
What is our next advocacy action going to be about?
