We are working towards all children in year 2 meeting their full potential. To achieve this we will be working closely with the children, parents and careers.
YOU HELP IS ESSENTIAL!
Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week and there reading book and communication book must be in school everyday!

Homework will be set the same as in year 1. With activities being completed over a half term.

8. Spelling The new National Curriculum has a huge emphasis on spelling.
To help your child with this when they are completing homework or writing at home get them to check their spelling and support them with the correct spelling.
Use the spelling words and keywords in a sentence.
Strategies used at school – Fred fingers and Fred rhythms.
Must be able to spell common exception words.

9. Wherever possible allow your child the opportunities to write!!!

Ideas to use to encourage your child to write
Writing is all about seizing the opportunities - Give your child a purpose to write!
shopping lists, directions, cards, notes, notices, diary, invitations, and labels
Make writing fun and meaningful. Allow them to use a notice board, notepad.
Encourage them to use different stationary - pens, coloured pencils, gel pens.
Wherever possible allow your child the opportunities to write!!!
Postcards are much appreciated if you do take a holiday. Use any opportunity to encourage writing!

14. The New National curriculum will build upon what the children have been learning in Year 1.
The key areas will still be covered – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
With a large focus on reasoning and problem solving – Reasoning Test
Checking children’s understanding and helping them make connections and explain how they know.

19. Progress and Assessment
At Parents evening you will be informed of your child’s progress in Reading, Writing and Maths in relation to national standards e.g. In reading James is working at age related expectations.
Progress is monitored daily in lessons.
You will be informed of your child’s targets at Parents’ Evening.
All children’s progress is closely monitored by the Senior Leadership Team and interventions will be made where necessary. Parents will be informed of this.

20. Emotional Wellbeing
Please tell us if anything has happened at home that might be affecting your child in school.
The change from Year 1 to Year 2 is usually a smooth transition as routines remain broadly the same and they are familiar with the members of staff.
However the move to year 2 provides a fresh start for all children.
