1 Lubrication Why do we Lubricate? To lower Friction To reduce Wear
To prevent Corrosion

2 Lubrication When do we Lubricate? At each rigging At regular intervals
At Form 2 inspections As per manufacturer’s schedules As per AD’s eg L’Hotelliers

3 Lubrication Types of Lubricant
Molybdenum Disulphide (not used much now) Low temperature aircraft greases for cold conditions eg Aeroshell 7 (must be used when oxygen fitted) Dry Lubes such as Graphite (On some slide bearings) Note that no lubrication is required on Teflon or on nylon bearings

4 Lubrication Grease Storage
Smooth the surface to stop “pooling” (the grease comes out of suspension and the grease loses its lubrication properties) Stirring will NOT recombine the oil

5 Lubrication Bearings Servicing (clean and lube)
Inspect for total freeplay of total circuit then identify the cause of the excess play Inspect each bearing for pitting and cracking Remove and refit where necessary
