1 Development of Manufacturing
Manufacturing Technology Mr. Huebsch How do you think the world would be today if we did not introduce manufacturing to the seen?

2 Summary Slide 1.0 Development of Manufacturing
2.0 Changes from Industrial Revolution 3.0 Interchangeable Parts 4.0 Assembly line and Automation 5.0 Future trends in Manufacturing 1.0 Students will be able to explain how manufacturing was done before the Industrial Revolution 2.0 Students will be able to describe to changes brought on by the I.R. 3.0 Students will be able to explain the concept of interchangeable parts. 4.0 Describe how an assembly line works. 5.0 Students will understand how automation changes manufacturing. 6.0 Students will be able to describe 2 future trends in manufacturing.

3 1.0 How Manufacturing Developed
Family’s made Everything Clothes, tools, weapons, and utensils Specialties emerged One person good at one thing Baker, shoemaker, blacksmith Work was called cottage crafts (in home) Bartering and the money system Bartering is trading (inefficient) The money system took over and is still used Explain how the names of the people who had specialties stuck for the name of some of those products. Discuss Cottage Industries

4 2.0 Changes from Industrial Revolution
Machines Faster, enabled new products (spinning Jenny) Engines Enabled new and better machines Factories Work moved out of homes 1700’s Samuel Slater 1st successful textile factory in America. Pawtucket, Rhode Island

5 3.0 Interchangeable Parts
Mass Production Large quantities in short periods of time All parts are identical for interchangeability Have the class name a few products that utilize interchangeable parts. Guns, vehicles,

6 4.0 Assemble line and Automation
Parts and pieces came to the worker This sped up work Lowered prices Workers are usually specialized Automation limited the uses for humans Talk about robotics and how they replace humans

7 5.0 Future tends in Manufacturing
Use of outer space Perfect spheres Mixing liquids Refining pure metals Growing crystals Better use of resources Solar Power Wind and water energy
