6 4-H and Schools: A Natural Partnership
Since 1987, the North Carolina 4-H Youth Development Program has been a partner with the Public Schools of North Carolina. The goal is to help teachers accomplish their mission by providing North Carolina 4-H Curricula that adheres to the Department of Public Instruction standards and thus ensures the highest quality experience for both teacher and student

7 NC 4-H School Enrichment
Goals & Objectives To provide special hands-on programs to North Carolina schools through 4-H Curriculum Programs for grades 2nd-8th Meet the requirements of North Carolina Schools standard course of studies Training is provided to teachers for each separate school enrichment program 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

8 NC 4-H School Enrichment
Teachers conduct the School Enrichment Program (4-H Agent is a resource) Allows teachers to fit the curricula into their own schedules To utilize the 4-H Curriculum teachers must attend the full training on their specific programs The training for teachers is free through the NC Cooperative Extension Service (CEU’s can possibly be earned from the training, depending on the school system) There will be a cost for each program 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

9 NC 4-H School Enrichment Requirements
For reporting purposes, the following information will be required: 4-H Enrollment Card for each child 4-H Evaluation Consent Form for each child 4-H Evaluation completed by each child and teacher (at the completion of the program) ***A letter will be provided to send home to explain the 4-H School Enrichment Program and why the information is needed. *** 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

10 2nd Grade 4-H School Enrichment Programs
BUGGING OUT EMBRYOLOGY 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

11 2nd Grade School 4-H Enrichment Programs
1) Bugging Out Students will gain an understanding of the different life cycles through the study of insects Objectives: Describe the life cycle of an animal, including birth, developing, reproducing and aging & death Observe that insects need food, air, and space to grow 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

12 2nd Grade School 4-H Enrichment Programs
2) Embryology Egg-splore the science of embryology from egg to chicken. Objectives Describe the life cycle of an animal including birth, developing into an adult, reproducing, and aging & death To follow the beginning of the life cycle of real chickens from being inside of the egg all the way till it hatches. 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

13 3RD Grade 4-H School Enrichment Programs
SOIL SOLUTIONS

14 3rd Grade 4-H School Enrichment Program
Soil Solutions Explore the interdependence of plants and soils while students will gain an understanding of nutrients, pollination and soil types. The students will conduct investigations and build an understanding of plant growth and adaptations and soil properties 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

15 Soil Solutions 3rd Grade
Objectives (Competency Goal #1) Observe and measure how the quantities of nutrients, light, and water in the environment affect plant growth Observe how environmental conditions determine how well plants survive and grow Investigate how plants pass through distinct stages in their life cycle including growth, survival and reproduction 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

16 Soil Solutions 3rd Grade
Objectives (Competency Goal #2) Investigate the properties of soil color, texture, and capacity to hold water Determine the ability of soil to support the growth of many plants and identify its basic components Investigate how composting can be used to recycle discarded plant and animal material 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

17 4TH Grade 4-H School Enrichment Programs
ELECTRICITY CREEPY CRAWLIES 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

18 4th Grade 4-H School Enrichment Programs
1) Electricity Magnetism, serial and paralell circuits, conductors and the flow of electricity will be demonstrated by your students Objectives Investigate the pull of magnets on all materials Demonstrate how magnets can be used to generate electricity Design and test electrical circuits as an energy source, conductor and receiver Observe and investigate the ability of electrical circuits to produce light, heat, sound and magnetic fields 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

19 4th Grade 4-H School Enrichment Programs
2) Creepy Crawlies Students will learn about the diversity of animal adaptation, specialized characteristics and unique behavior in the insect world Objectives Record and observe how animals of the same kind differ and discuss possible advantages and disadvantages of these variations Discuss how behaviors and body structures help animals survive in a particular habitat Discuss how humans and other animals can adapt their behavior to live in changing habitats 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

20 5th Grade 4-H School Enrichment Program
ECO-WONDERS 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

21 5th Grade 4-H School Enrichment Program
Eco-Wonders Students experience the four elements of life, connections among living things and how all plants and animals are affected by the environment. Objectives Describe and compare several common ecosystems and their interactions with the environment Identify and analyze the functions of organisms within the population of the ecosystem Explain why an ecosystem can support a variety of organisms Evaluate some ways that humans effect ecosystems 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

22 6TH Grade 4-H School Enrichment Program
Down to Earth Energy Conservation (pilot phase) 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership

23 6th Grade 4-H School Enrichment Program
Down to Earth Students will demonstrate their understanding of photosynthesis, the flow of energy and matter, and the role of producers, consumers and decomposers. Objectives Describe the flow of energy and matter in natural systems Investigate how matter is transferred from one organism to another Evaluate the significant role of decomposers, photosynthesis 4-H & Schools: A Natural Partnership
