3 Can you fill in the locations?

4 Pharaohs In ancient Egypt their kings were known as Pharaohs
Does anyone know the most famous of their Kings?

5 King Tut – most famous of them all...

6 King Tutankhamun King Tutankhamen (or Tutankhamun) ruled Egypt as pharaoh for 10 years until his death at age 19, around 1324 B.C. In 1922, when British archaeologist Howard Carter chiseled through a doorway and entered the boy pharaoh’s tomb, which had remained sealed for more than 3,200 yea The tomb’s vast hoard of artifacts and treasure, intended to accompany the king into the afterlife, revealed an incredible amount about royal life in ancient Egypt, and quickly made King Tut the world’s most famous pharaoh

7 Famous inventions

8 Name the type of Egyptian writing

9 Inventions? hieroglyphic symbols Pyramids Jewelry and wigs
Athletics : men boxed, fenced and wrestled for sport The children played with board games Paper…

10 What did Egyptians write on
Papyrus reed which is a water or marsh plant, with tall straight hollow stems. The reeds were flattened, dried, and stuck together to make pages. The Egyptians also carved hieroglyphs onto stone and painted them on the walls of the tombs. Egyptian writing was deciphered by hieroglyphics using the Rosetta stone

11 Who built the pyramids? The Ancient Egyptians built the pyramids
Pyramids are structures of outstanding archaeological importance. Indeed, they are so significant – from their complex designs to the hieroglyphs and artifacts found inside them – that any suggestion of breaking into internal tunnels or chambers forcibly would be seen as inappropriate and irresponsible. Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens The pharaohs were buried in pyramids of many different shapes and sizes

12 First pyramids were built in Giza
There are about eighty pyramids known today from ancient Egypt. The three largest and best-preserved of these were built at Giza. The most well-known of these pyramids was built for the pharaoh Khufu. It is known as the 'Great Pyramid'. (Tut’s father) What does the word Pyramid mean: The word 'pyramid' actually comes from the Greek word 'pyramis' which means 'wheat cake'. The word 'pyramis' was used to describe the ancient Egyptian buildings because they reminded the Greeks of pointy-topped wheat cakes. The ancient Egyptian word for the pyramids was 'Mer'

13 Why THAT shape? Here are three different ideas:
The pyramid represented the first land to appear at the beginning of time- a hill called 'Ben-Ben'. The pyramid had sloping sides so that the dead pharaoh could symbolically climb to the sky and live forever. The pyramid represented the rays of the sun

14 New locations for tombs
Since pyramids cost so much money Egyptians decided to stop building them They replaced the Pyramids of Giza and buried the Kings in the Valley of the Kings This is where King Tut was buried Social hierarchy was passed down through the family (from father to son…) keeping the leadership and king’s title within the family unit This is why kings always wanted a son and not a daughter!!!! Mesopotamia had the same style in order to maintain the Legacy in the same family
