18. What can parents do? Provide a time for your child to read every day.
Read aloud to your child, even to “big kids.”
Allow child to read a variety of texts: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, magazines, pamphlets, etc.
Help your child determine a variety of interests.

Ask basic questions to see if your child knows character/setting/events/problem/solution.
