2. Where did the Taliban come from?
The Taliban formed during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, lasting from 1979 to 1989.
The Taliban originated as a group of religious students that had spent time in Muslim monasteries
In 1992, the mujahideen group overthrew the Soviet-backed government that was in power.
The mujahideen then proceeded to set up their own government with Burhanuddin Rabbani as interim president.
This government soon fell apart and Afghanistan was reduced to a collection of territories held by competing warlords

3. History of the Taliban
1979- Soviet army invades Afghanistan and sets up communist government
1985- The mujahideen comes together and forms an alliance against Pakistan
1986- US begins supplying mujahideen with weapons
1989- Soviet forces leave Afghanistan
1992- Mujahideen overthrows Soviet backed government in Afghanistan
1996- Taliban seizes Kabul
2001- Us led bombings of Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks
2011- Ex-president Burhanuddin Rabbani is assassinated

5. When did the Taliban manage to takeover Afghanistan?
In 1992, after the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, the mujahideen was able to overthrow the Soviet-backed government that was in control of Afghanistan
Also, in 1996 the Taliban, under the leadership of Mullah Muhammad Omar, seize control of Kabul.

6. How did the Taliban manage to takeover Afghanistan?
The Taliban managed to takeover Afghanistan with a few events that transpired.
The first being when the mujahideen overthrew the Soviet-backed government that was in control of Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion
The other reason being when the Taliban was able to seize control of Kabul. By seizing control of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city, the Taliban was able to take of Afghanistan’s most important city therefore making it much easier for them to gain further control of the government and complete control over Afghanistan

8. Effects of Taliban rule in Afghanistan
Taliban rule in Afghanistan has had very negative effects on the country of Afghanistan and its people. After the Taliban seized the city of Kabul and put their own government into power, Afghanistan fell victim to fighting and violence between warlords that controlled the various territories that Afghanistan had been divided into.
