3
Can I identify the place value of the underlined digit?
Learning objective: Can I identify the place value of the underlined digit?
4
PLACE VALUE 1 265 2 145 = tens = hundreds Students read the numbers
5
Numbers in words & vice versa
Learning objective: Can I write a number in words and vice versa?
6
= one thousand, two hundred and sixty five
PLACE VALUE 1 265 2. Thirty five thousand, two hundred and forty = one thousand, two hundred and sixty five = 35, 240 Students read the numbers
7
Rounding to the nearest 10,100
Learning objective: Can I round numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000?
8
Nearest 10,100 25 to the nearest 10 = 30 582 to the nearest 100 = 600
Students read the numbers
9
Learning objective: Can I add numbers without using a calculator?
Addition Learning objective: Can I add numbers without using a calculator?
10
Adding = 92 = 843
11
Learning objective: Can I subtract numbers without using a calculator?
Subtraction Learning objective: Can I subtract numbers without using a calculator?
12
Try these: 52 – 25 = 27 = 35
13
Learning objective: Can I multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000?
Multiply & Divide by 10,100 & 1000 Learning objective: Can I multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000?
14
Multiply, Divide by 10,100 & 1000 23 × 10 256 ÷ 100 24 ÷ 1000 = 230
= 2.56 = 0.024
15
Learning objective: Can I multiply numbers without using a calculator?
Multiplication Learning objective: Can I multiply numbers without using a calculator?
16
SHORT MULTIPLICATION 64 × 9 = 576
17
LONG MULTIPLICATION 74 × 39 = 2886
18
Learning objective: Can I divide numbers without using a calculator?
Division Learning objective: Can I divide numbers without using a calculator?
19
The “bus stop” method You do need to know your tables! The most common method is called “the bus stop”, because it looks like the numbers are waiting in a bus stop. The divisor goes outside the “bus stop”. You can also add multiples of your divisor, but this will take you longer!
20
Calculate these, without a calculator!
168 ÷ 7 223 ÷ 6 384 ÷ 12 954 ÷ 17 = 24 = 37 r 1 = 32 = 56 r 2
21
More on LONG DIVISION 684 ÷ 19 435 ÷ 25 = 36 = 17 𝟐 𝟓 = 17 r 10 = 17.4
22
Learning objective: Can I use BIDMAS?
23
Mixed Sums & BIDMAS 265 – 25 + 121 - 12 = 349 350 – 400 + 75 – 23
25 ÷ 5 + (4 - 3) = 349 = 2 = 14 = 6
