6 Our profile – How we differ from other schools at KTH
Out broad academic range. School of Architecture and Built Environment is unique among KTH’s schools in that we work with both the natural sciences and technology and with the social sciences and the humanities. The school has excellent contacts within research, business and the public sector, a strong tradition of contract education, and continual and well-organized contacts with professional organizations about the content and development of our educational programs.

Philosophy, History and Transport Science got the highest rates (5, 5, 5) in RAE 2012

12 Seafarm – Macro algae Need to find alternative ways to produce energy and materials than using fossil resources. Algae is being upgraded from an environmental problem to a valuable natural resource and raw material. Technology making algae blooms a source of energy, food, medicine and more. The goal is to use the full potential of the algae.

13 Urbanization and climate
By 2030, the world’s urban population will increase by another 2 billion. The extent and impact of such rapid urbanization have received relatively little scientific study. KTH-researchers have developed a technique for quick, simple and cost-effective mapping of worldwide urban growth and its environmental impact.

14 Transport in smart cities
Personal Transport Advisor: an integrated platform of mobility patterns for Smart Cities to enable demand-adaptive transportation system Make it possible for travellers to make travel priorities and choice for route and modality.

15 Rational training. Scientific methods of exercise in cross country skiing
The aim is to study the ways in which scientific training methods have been created and motivated, 1940 – What impact these methods have had among the athletes and coaches in elite cross country skiing. When, where and how were scientific training methods introduced? What purpose did the researchers have to pursue this direction of research? How did the scientific results affect the practice of elite cross country skiers and coaches? How did scientists and practitioners follow up and secure the results of scientific training?

16 Researchers

17 Moving a city – Exemple of co-operation
Göran Cars, Professor in Urban Planning, is working with the Kiruna city transformation. The mine beneath the city is causing the formation of fissures, which is why parts of the city are being moved 3 km to the east. Several experts in real estate economics, land law and urban planning from the School of Architecture and the Built Environment have participated in the project.
