Traditional Literature

3 Picture Books Call number
E + first three letters of author’s last name For example: Traction Man, by Mini Grey… E GRE

4 Practice #1 a) The King’s Stilts, by Dr. Seuss E SEU b) Tuesday, by David Wiesner WIE

5 I-Can-Read Books I-Can-Read Books are beginning chapter books.
I + first three letters of the author’s last name For example, Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia!, by Peggy Parrish I PAR

6 I-Can-Read Practice #2 d) Pearl and Wagner,
c) Spider-Man 3: Meet the Heroes and Villains, by Harry Lime I LIM d) Pearl and Wagner, by Kate McMullen MCM

7 Chapter Books Books with longer chapters follow the same call number pattern as E and I books, but they start with F or jF. We now use a j (for “junior) before call numbers that are the same as the MS/HS library. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney jF OR F KIN KIN

Traditional Literature is tricky! It can be found in the any section of the library – even the non- fiction/Dewey section. Traditional Literature includes: Folk tales, fairy tales, fables, myths, legends Once we master finding E, I, and F books, we’ll learn how to find Traditional Literature. STAY TUNED!
