Redbridge CCTV The Redbridge CCTV system began operation in 1997. Initially funded by the Home Office and covered the installation of just 21 cameras. Now increased to over 300 cameras Direct link to Ilford Police Station to share pictures Use cutting edge technology: wireless mesh + 3G/4G relocatable cameras, covert/overt CCTV vans, live viewing in the field for REOs The initial 21 cameras covered the Ilford Town Centre area from Beal Road to Chapel Road, Havelock Street, Clements Road and the High Road as far as Green Lane. The link to the police station was able to provide the Police with limited access to the system. Additional funding to expand the coverage came from places such as Government grants, the Redbridge Safer Community Partnership, developers through s106 Planning Agreements, Area Committees and Business Partnerships, and Transport for London.

1000 arrests/yr – examples:
CCTV operators as a team gathered evidence for the Met Police and LBR Enforcement Services to tackle crime in and around York Road – particular issues were Drug, Prostitution and ASB problems. The evidence gathered by CCTV led to the arrest and conviction of 17 gang members and also identified 6 individuals for civil injunctions. Our team continued to support this operation for the months after to ensure the local community was safe. CCTV worked in collaboration with local Police to target a recent rise in cash point distraction thefts – responsive joint working led to the arrest and detention of 3 suspects within hours of the Operation going live. CCTV footage was used to identify a suspect in an attempted rape in Valentines Park; CCTV evidence located the suspect out all night around Ilford and Gants Hill and placed him on two buses, one just after the incident. The suspect was arrested and charged.

Notes of thanks ‘…….I am a Newham police officer and while off duty I was walking along Ilford High Road where I was the victim of an attempted robbery whereby a firearm was intimated…..the CCTV operator was exceptional in his work obtained great coverage of the events which led to the suspects rapid arrest…….as a police officer I utilise council CCTV systems often and I would like to commend the LBR operator who captured the entire incident on camera and followed them to an address whereby they were all arrested. Manned CCTV systems are truly a fantastic law enforcement tool and in the case of this incident proved it's worth as invaluable as the prompt arrest of said subjects would not have been possible without it…...’
