2 Main verbs and Helping verbs
A verb phrase is a verb that has more than one word. The main verb shows action. A helping verb shows the time of the action. There are 23 helping verbs: A am are B be been being C can could D do did does H have had I is M may might must S shall should W Was were will would

3 Identifying helping verbs
1. Identify what could be a helping verb. 2. Look alt the next word that follows it. If that word is a verb, then it is a helping verb. noun, then it is not a helping ver. But if it is not, for example, if the following word is a noun, then it is not a helping verb. ex. She is running He was studying all the weekend. Katy is watching television

5 They have won the contest
She has created a beautiful song. I am playing the piano. The dog is playing with the cat. My friends are watching T.V You are talking too much.

6 Present, past and future tense
PRESENT TENSE The present tense verb tells what is happening right now. To form present-tense verbs, use the plain Examples : PLURAL WE EAT I LOOK YOU WALK THEY RUN Examples : SINGULAR He jumps. She looks It says

7 The past tense of many verbs is formed by adding ed.
Examples: remember + ed = remembered climb + ed = climbed If a verb ends in e, drop e before adding ed.
Examples:
phone - phoned
arrive – arrived If a verb ends in y, change the y to i before adding ed.
Examples:
carry - carried
try – tried If a verb ends in a short vowel followed by a single consonant, double the final consonant.
Examples:
trip- tripped
pop - popped

8 Future tense verb tells about things that will happen in the future
Future tense verb tells about things that will happen in the future. To form the future-tense verb, use will before the verb
