3 Introduction OIC is an international organization founded in 1969 consisting of 57 member states. The organization states that it is "the collective voice of the Muslim world" and works to "safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony"

4 Name And Logo changes 28 June 2011 during 38 council of foreign Ministers meeting in “Astana, Kazakhstan”. The Organization changed the Name from “organization of Islamic conference” to “ organization of Islamic cooperation”. And also changed the logo of OIC From To

5 Continue: The formation of the OIC happened shortly after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Leaders of Muslim nations met in Rabat to establish the OIC on September 25, 1969.

6 Continue: Mission is to represent Muslim people and to strengthen cooperation among Member States in political, economic cultural and social fields

7 Continue: The forty-year-old Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is the second largest international body after the UN

8 Continue: It comprises of fifty seven nations spread over four continents. Some experts say the organization has been ineffectual, but they also note its tremendous potential for addressing the issues facing Muslims.

9 Member states The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has 57 members, 56 of which are also member states of the United Nations

10 Goals of OIC To safeguard people of the member states and Muslims.
Strengthen Islamic solidarity. Consolidate Cooperation among members states in social, cultural and scientific fields Safeguard the Holy places. Support the struggle of the Palestinian people. Eliminate racial discrimination and all forms of colonialism.

11 Challenges Difficulties in coordination.
Geographically dispersed (Africa, Asia, Middle East, Southeast Asia). Politically diverse. (Islamic Republics, Monarchies, Democracy, Military Dictatorships) National Income differences (Richest like Saudi Arabia and poorest Afghanistan)

12 Cont… The unifying force is Islam. Aims to protect the Islam  from Western materialism. Palestinian-Israeli crisis, Arab-Israeli crisis, the Bosnian Crisis, Kashmir, Iraq and Afghanistan crisis. 2006, Danish newspaper published offensive cartoons of Prophet Mohammed. OIC took a unified stand on the issue.

13 Cont… Greatest challenge is the Sep 11 attacks since 2001.
OIC condemned the attacks on US but Iran, Iraq and Syria have also condemned the US.
