3 Optical Test Bed at Nikhef
The complete test bed will be housed in one 19inch rack Due to delay for integration of DU-2, now time available for work on test bed Status of the test bed: Front panels of the custom crates are designed and ordered. Custom crates will house the optical components that are not delivered as a 19"crate All optical components available except: - Add-and-drop filters (ch59) used in the DU-base (are ordered) - Raman amplifier for Italian shore station (2 are available for shore station, use 1 temporary in test bed) - new EDFA amplifiers for SC/DC optical path for Italian shore station (2 sets are ordered for shore station, use 1 set temporary in test bed) 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

4 Optical network Italy: replacement Raman by 2x EDFA
The specifications of the preamp-EDFA and the booster-EDFA are defined. Both EDFA types will have a monitor port on the input and output Quotation requested and received: - preamp-EDFA: 5600 € (excl. VAT) - booster-EDFA: 6200 € (excl. VAT) Two EDFAs of each type are ordered begin-July (lead time: 8 weeks) 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

9 Purchase of SFP receivers for switches in shore station
600 SFP receiver-only devices are ordered - OEsolutions type RR112SVX-SST devices for Italian shore station devices for French shore station spares Price: 118€ (excl. VAT) All devices had to be ordered as one set. Initially ordered and paid by Nikhef. Arrangement needed with CPPM for devices for French shore station (CPPM commitment) 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

10 Procurement of remaining optical components
Below the remaining optical components still to be purchased by Nikhef. France: - EDFA type-C in DU-base for 6x DU 6 modules - are ordered - Add-and-Drop filters in the DOMs and DU-base for 6x DU 222 devices - are ordered - 18ch DWDM module in DU-base for 6x DU 6 modules - are ordered GHz Interleaver in DU-base for 2x DU type-A 2 modules - are ordered - 1x2 splitter in DU-base for 6x DU 30 devices - are ordered - 1x16 splitter in DU-base for 6x DU 6 devices - are ordered Italy: - EDFA type-C in DU-base for 6x DU 18 modules - are ordered - 18ch DWDM module in DU-base for 6x DU 20 modules - are ordered - 80ch DWDM crate for shore station 5 crates - are ordered - Preamp- and booster-EDFA shore station (instead of RAMAN-1) 2x2 crates - are ordered - Part of optical amplifiers for shore station (Nikhef commitment) - wait till after deployment first DUs Almost all remaining components that are a Nikhef commitment are ordered now! 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

11 Test of JB12/001 for Italy during deployment operation
29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

12 Test of JB12/001 for Italy during deployment operation
Connection of the JB12/001 to the new installed CTF started in the night from Sunday 19-July / Monday 20-July. Support from optical team of Nikhef was arranged via a Skype group communication. Result of optical tests after deployment and connection of JB12/001: Power on of the infrastructure and electrical tests (resp.: INFN-LNS): ok At first instance the communication with the JB was not working. The preamp EDFA was not working due to a wrong LOS setting. Without using the onshore EDFAs the communication was working. Without EDFAs there is only a few dB optical margin so optical levels should be very close to expected levels otherwise it will not work! ok Changed LOS setting of preamp EDFA. Link working with both EDFAs active! ok Test of communications with the JB (resp.: INFN-LNS): ok The value measure to the ‘Preamp Monitor’ (power meter): -29,87dBm? expected: -36dBm The SFP receiver on the FMC board in the JB: -13 dBm expected: -16dBm Check status of all EDFAs using the output of the GUI: ok Input power received by EDFA-N using the output of the GUI: -15,7 dBm expected: -15dBm 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

13 Use of the redundant fiber in Pave penetrator
The new penetrator from Pave for the DOMs has 2 fibers instead of 1 fiber. During DOM integration the extra redundant fiber can be used in case of a problem with the default fiber as long as the PMTs are not glued in the upper hemisphere. After gluing the fibers of the penetrator are not accesible anymore. To enable a swap of the penetrator fiber after the DOM is closed, an option could be to connect both fibers inside the DOM using a 50%/50% splitter in the DOM. This will allow to recover a DOM when during the period of testing and integration of the DOM in the DU, the used fiber would fail while the redundant fiber is still OK. Up to now this situation has not occurred. The failure of the penetrator fiber, experienced during the DOM integration of DU-2, would have occurred in both fibers if they would have been present. 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

14 Use of the redundant fiber in Pave penetrator
The new penetrator from Pave for the DOMs has 2 fibers instead of 1 fiber. Pros Cons In case only the default fiber fails after the DOM is closed, the redundant fiber can be used so the DOM is not lost. Extra 3dB loss in every DOM due to the 50%/50% splitter. (No problem for DOM-> shore path, but problem for SC -> DOM path) Redesign of the fiber tray necessary to house the splitter and 2 extra splice protectors. Extra cost of splitter (~80€). More time needed to mount the optical components in the DOM. Three splices are needed inside the DOM instead of only one. More complex fiber routing inside the DOM. 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

15 Nikhef 400V/12V DC/DC Converters
Meant to be used in the VEOC of the DU’s at the French site Design change - a DCR has been submitted on Google Drive A small prototype series needs to be produced and tested before production 18 DC/DC converters needed in September for first ORCA style DU in France For this DU a DC/DC converter of same type as for DU-1 will be used. 18 DC/DC converters of old type are back from CPPM and now at Nikhef. They still need to be pressure tested (when Paul Timmer is back from holidays). 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo

16 Pre-deployment optical test of DU-1 & DU-2
Atten. 10dB Atten. 10dB Also needed: Power supply to power the DU (different for France and Italy!) ROV Test Cable to connet to the base container (different for France and Italy?) Small portable 19” rack to house all equipment 29-July-2015 Steering Committee Meeting - Vidyo
