3 Animal Introduction Our animal’s name is the polar bear. Its scientific name is ursus maritimus. The type of animal is a mammal. The polar bear is a mammal because it has fur and feeds milk to its young.

4 Physical Description Male polar bears weigh lb. Females weigh lb. Polar bears have black skin, white fur, and lots of blubber.

5 Habitat The type of habitat they live in is the polar regions where it is very cold. They live near the coastal waters near the North Pole, but migrate to stay near food. They like snow and cold ocean water.

6 Food and Eating Habits Our animal is a carnivore. Polar bears eat seals, whales, and fish. They hunt by using their teeth and claws. They do not have a special way of eating. They are good at hunting and can camouflage themselves well.

7 Family Life They are mostly solitary, which means that only one animal lives in each group. Polar bears don’t live in groups. They usually have two cubs at a time. Cubs leave their parents in a couple of years.

8 Conservation Some people hunt the polar bears for their skin, so they can make sweaters and clothes. People even eat them. People need to stop killing them so we will have polar bears in the future. They need to survive!
