Graphic Organizer Fold your paper in half, hot dog style.
Fold your paper in half, hot dog style again. You should have four sections on your paper. Label the sections as instructed.

Plot How would you define plot?
Plot is the chain of related events that tells us what is happening in a story.

Exposition What is the exposition and what does it include?
Exposition is the beginning of the story. It includes the characters and setting of the story.

CONFLICT What is conflict?
Conflict is the characters problems or the struggle between two characters. Conflict can be internal or external.

Internal Conflict Internal conflict is person vs self.
This is a struggle that occurs within the main character and in the main characters own mind.

External Conflict External conflict is a conflict with an outside force. It can be person vs person, person vs nature, or person vs society. Person vs person external conflict is a struggle that the main character has with another person. Person vs nature external conflict is a struggle that the main character has with nature and outside elements. Person vs society external conflict is a struggle the main character has within society, his town, city, or neighborhood.

Rising Action What is rising action? What happens during rising action? Rising action are events in the story that lead up to the climax. Rising action includes building conflict.

Climax What is the climax? What happens at the climax?
The climax is the turning point of the story and where things begin to go in a different direction. Climax is when the character learns the lesson of the story. The climax can be positive or negative.

Falling Action What is falling action? What happens during falling action? Falling action is events that occur after the climax. Falling action is when events in the story usually begin to work themselves out.

Resolution What is the resolution of the story?
The resolution is when a solution to the problem has occurred and the conflict is resolved.

Handy Summary On the back of your plot mountain trace your hand and write down five things you have learned about plot in the fingers. Write the most important point of plot in the palm.
