Customer was a worldwide manufacturer of construction/ building materials
All US & Canadian locations were included in this upgrade
~300 Manufacturing facilities in North America
Customer was upgrading their entire Oracle footprint to R12.1.2
Financials
Supply Chain – Manufacturing (WIP, BOM), Demand Planning, Shipping, Inventory, MSCA, Order Management
Customer was on a hybrid instance of Oracle R and R
Order Management & Shipping were on R11.5.9
Inventory, BOM & WIP were on R

Extensive use of Third Party Applications
All were not being replaced by the Oracle Upgrade
Order Entry, Accounts Receivables, Freight Carrier Manifesting & Truck Load Management, just to name a few
R upgrade project started in Dec 2010 with a non-negotiable go live of Aug 2011
Maintaining like for like functionality
Inclusive of existing RICE items
Agreed to review new functionality after post go live stabilization was completed
Customer had been preparing for upgrade for 2 years prior to the project kicking off
A lot of internal testing, troubleshooting was done ahead of time

“A valid document category does not exist” - Error thrown at Ship Confirm
Document Sets had to be setup for Bill of Lading, Master Bill of Lading and Pack Slip even though they were not being used at all
Ship Confirm Backorder All
R checks for empty deliveries at ship confirm and will not proceed until they are unassigned from/ closed on the associated Trip
Empty deliveries are created when backorder is done at pick confirm
Upgraded Shipping Roles
General Tab> Configure Buttons and Regions functions were disabled

Weight/ Volume calculation parameter was set to Manual in 1159, and in R12 the parameter is obsolete

Resolution required that ALL open shipping transactions have the reset weight/ volume action engaged to update the flags at the trip, stops, delivery(ies) and line(s)
SR for data-fix/ update script to resolve issue – ran 8+hrs & slowed other upgrade processes/ programs down while it ran
Oracle Support> Bug MISSING OR INCORRECT WEIGHT/VOLUME IN SHIPPING TRANSACTIONS FORM
Bug is fixed in R12.WSH.C, slated for inclusion in R12.1.4

User-defined Picking Rules
Application function moved from Inventory to WMS Inventory Picking Rules with upgrade
Delete exist user-defined picking rule in Inventory
Re-create user-defined picking rule that was deleted in WMS Inventory Picking Rules
For EACH Inventory Org
Organization Parameters> ATP, Pick, Item-Sourcing> Picking Defaults> Rule
Change to the new user-defined WMS Inventory Picking Rule and save
“Rotate Stock” is the default WMS Inventory Picking Rules rule
Run “Generate All Rules” concurrent program
Move order allocations will error out if you don’t run the program
