4.3 Different attitudes to equal rights for women in religion and the reasons for them
summarise 7 bible passages on the next slide and put them into a table. Why does the catholic church not ordain women as priests? Why does the protestant church ordain women as priests? “The Catholic Church is sexist” Do you agree? Why would others disagree with you? Genesis 1:27 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 2:15-19 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Matthew 27:55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. Ephesians 5:22-23 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Saviour. Galatians 3:26-28 (New International Version, ©2010) So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Corinthians Let the women keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a disgrace for a woman to speak in church BACK

1 Timothy 2:9-15 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. 11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. Summary Women should dress modestly Women should be quiet and not teach in church Man was made first and women were the cause of sin A Woman’s job is to have children
