Characterization A method an author uses to develop the character
Direct: An author directly states the character’s traits (personality/physical) Indirect: An author does not directly state the character’s traits (personality/physical), but implies the traits through actions, thoughts, words, and interactions with other characters

Plot Diagram Exposition Rising Action: Actions that lead to the climax
*Central Conflict- base problem/struggle that no other conflict could exist without, *conflict- struggles internal and external, and *complications- areas that prevent the resolution Climax: the turning point of the story/usually most intense part Falling Action: Events leading to the resolution Resolution: The solution or end result of the problem (can be directly give or implied)

Before Reading Think about India’s modern culture in the story!
Think about Venkat’s traditional (family) values that are conflicted with India’s modern values.
