1 Some facts & figures… When the University first opened its doors in
1872 it had 26 students. The University is now home to approx. 10,000 students from across the world. Home to the oldest International Politics department in the world, established in 1919. There are apparently more books per head of population in Aberystwyth than anywhere else on earth. Motto: Nid Byd, Byd Heb Wybodaeth A world without knowledge is no world at all

2 WHAT IS HIGHER EDUCATION?
Term used to describe study in universities and colleges which is at a higher level than you can do at school. Usually leads to qualifications called degrees (e.g. BA, BSc) and diplomas. As a general rule, most people go into higher education following sixth-form or college.
