COMMON CORE #13(Part 2) Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function. We will be graphing two equations on each slide and find the solution of those two linear equations.

3 y = 3x – y = x + 2 (3, 5)

4 y = 3x y = 4x (2, 8)

5 y = -4x y = -4x + 8 parallel or no solution

6 y = 2x y = 4x - 2 (1.5, 4)

7 y = 2x – 1 y = -4x + 11 (2, 3)

8 y = x y = 2x + 8 Infinite Solutions

9 y = ⅔x + 7/3 y = -2x + 5 (1, 3)

10 PRACTICE PROBLEMS Find the solution of the following problems.

11 y = 3x – y = 2x (3, 6)

12 y = -2x y = -2x – 5 no solution or parallel

13 y = -x y = -5x – 1 (-1, 4)

14 y = x – y = ⅓x – 3 (0, -3)

15 y = x – y = 2x (-2, -4)
