3 Evaluate What is * 3 There are two possible answers, so is it 60 or 44? To make sure we get the right answer, we need to use the Order of Operations.

4 PEMDAS (Order of Operations)
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Or… Please, Everyone, Math Doesn’t Always Suck Use either one of these, or make up your own. However you need to remember it is up to you.

5 PEMDAS P – Parenthesis () – Always solve what is inside parenthesis first. E – Exponents M and D – Multiplication and Division from left to right. A and S – Addition and Subtraction from left to right *When solving parenthesis, the PEMDAS rules apply to the operations within the parenthesis.*

PEMDAS applies to variable expressions as well. But don’t freak out. The rules are the same. Plug the values in for the correct variables. Solve using order of operations.
