2 Federal Aid Highway Program Funding through the
Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program (SRTS) SRTS Program Federally funded reimbursement program Established in August 2005 Hightstown was awarded a grant as part of the 2014 SRTS Program Typical Projects Intersection improvements, pavement marking and signage improvements, signal upgrades, curb and sidewalk upgrades SRTS Objectives Enable and encourage children grades K-8 to walk and bicycle to school Make bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy active lifestyle from an early age Facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects that improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of schools

4 Existing Conditions Stockton Street (C. R
Existing Conditions Stockton Street (C.R. 571) is a two-lane county road with a speed limit of 25 MPH through the project area. Grace N. Rodgers Elementary School and Walter C. Black Elementary School are in the vicinity of the project. There are non-compliant ADA curb ramps and deteriorated curb and sidewalk throughout the project area as well as an unmarked street crossing at Oak Lane and Stockton Street. 5 Proposed Improvements
Replace curb and sidewalk along Stockton Street from the Oak Lane/Dutch Neck Road/Harron Avenue intersection to beyond Summit Street and meeting existing recently constructed granite curb and paver sidewalk. Provide curb along both sides of Joseph Street with sidewalk along the western side and reconstruct Joseph Street pavement. Upgrade curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Improvements will be in accordance with current MUTCD, NJDOT, and ADA standards.

NJDOT to Approve Environmental Document Complete Final Design and Submit to NJDOT for Review Anticipated Federal Authorization to Construct Award Construction Contract* Begin Construction after School Closing ** March 2017 May 2017 August 2017 October 2017 December 2017 June 2018 . * Subject to NJDOT Authorization ** Construction to be completed during Summer Recess
