Regina 2 min Good Evening and Welcome. It is great to see so many families here this evening. We really appreciate you taking time out of your week to come and learn more about Central High School. As you may have already noticed, our vision here at Central High School is Attend, Engage, Achieve. We feel strongly that students who attend school, get engaged in their classes and the activities available to them will ultimately achieve success and be ready to take on the world. This vision guides us in all things that we do here at Central High School and you will see this throughout our program this evening. Now before we get too far into the program, I want to be sure and introduce some very important people for you to know. Introduce: Andrea, Andy F. , Andy O. 4 Diploma Paths Core 40 w/ Academic Honors Core 40 w/ Technical Honors
Objectives for instruction and expected results and/or skills developed from learning. Core 40 General Diploma

5 EVSC / Core 40 Intended to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, one and two-year colleges and technical schools, and/or successful entry into the workforce. The EVSC/Core 40 diploma requirements are: English 8 credits Social Studies 6 credits Mathematics 6 credits Science 6 credits Health 1 credit Physical Education 3 credits Directed Electives 5 credits (World Language, Fine Arts and/or Career-Technical) Electives 6 credits TOTAL 41 credits Students planning to attend four-year colleges are expected to take a minimum of two years of a world language, advanced English, advanced Science, and advanced Mathematics courses.

6 Academic Honors Diploma Effective with students who entered high school in the School Year. To acquire the Core 40 w/ Academic Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits. Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages) Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits. Earn a grade of “C” or above in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of “B” or above, and Complete one of the following: Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exams. Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from priority course list. Earn 2 of the following: A minimum of 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the priority course list. 2 credits in AP courses and corresponding AP exams. 2 credits in IB standard level courses and corresponding IB exams. Earn a combined score of 1750 on the SAT critical reading, mathematics and writing sections and a minimum score of 530 on each. Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section. Earn 4 credits in IB courses and take corresponding IB exams. Earn a minimum of 47 credits. A list of procedures and steps, or a lecture slide with media.

7 Technical Honors Diploma Effective with students who entered high school in the School Year. To acquire the Core 40 w/ Technical Honors diploma, students must: Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or Pathway dual credits from the list of priority courses resulting in 6 transcripted college credits. Earn a grade of “C” or above in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a grade point average of “B” or above, and Earn a minimum of 47 credits Complete one of the following: Any one of the options (A-F) of the Core 40 w/ Academic Honors Earn the following scores or higher on Workeys: Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information – Level 5. Earn the following score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing – 80, Reading – 90, Math – 75. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: Algebra – 66, Writing – 70, Reading – 80. A list of procedures and steps, or a lecture slide with media.

9 Advanced Placement (AP) Classes
Advantages Disadvantages Nationally recognized and standardized throughout the entire US May test out of numerous college level credits (12+ hours in some cases) In most cases, no second semester final No grade is transferred, just credit Not a guaranteed college credit – must pass AP Exam with a 3 or better on a 5 point scale. AP Exams cost $93 In the past free/reduced lunch, Math, Science, and English exams are offered at no charge

10 DUAL COLLEGE CREDIT (CAP-USI,IVY TECH, VINCENNES)
Advantages Disadvantages Guaranteed College Credit with passing grade Transfer credit accepted at over 500 colleges and universities Exposure to more rigorous, college level material than a regular high school course Full access to USI library (if CAP credit) May not transfer to colleges/universities or may only transfer as an elective credit Grade transfers with credit – college transcript/GPA begins How will my credits transfer? Priority dual credit courses for CAP cost $25/credit hour All other CAP courses are $80/credit hour. 13 JUNIOR YEAR – Take the SAT/ACT? If so, when?
Students should register to take SAT and/or ACT in the spring of their junior year; retake in fall of senior year if dissatisfied with scores. Most 4 year college & universities will want a score to make an admission decision Fee waivers are available if you receive free/reduced lunch or are a 21st Century Scholar SAT: online at $57.00 (with essay – should take essay at least once) Free SAT practice offered at Khan Academy & w/Mrs. Hills ACT: online at $ (with writing – should take writing at least once) Practice available online on their website.

16 Planning For College What are colleges looking for in an applicant?
Cumulative 3 year GPA: Rigor of course load (AP, Dual Credit/Honors) – Senior Classes Grade trends – want to see grades going up Junior year grades are important Class Rank SAT/ACT Scores Activities, Work, and Leadership Experiences Extraordinary circumstances (i.e.1st generation college student, legacy) Special talents (i.e. athletic, artistic, musical) *Create a résumé of your extra curricular and volunteer activities, etc.*

17 Which College is Right for You?
Meet College CHS when they visit. Campus visits are important – try to make a visit this spring or summer. 2 College Visit days per semester are allowed. Make an “official” visit: meet with admissions representative, take a guided tour, meet with a representative from the department/major in which you have an interest.

Post-secondary Plan or “Grad Plan” went live today through student rds and EVSC Parent Access Parents/Students/Counselors will be able to keep track of grades & career goals

20 Scholarships Most scholarships are available senior year and will be advertised in the Senior News and Scholarship Report on the Central website, offered directly from the colleges/universities that students apply to, or through FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There are many scholarship search sites available, however, and some do offer scholarship opportunities for students in their Junior year: 

21 21st Century Scholar Requirements
Student must create a ScholarTrack account – which will track progress, 21st Century Contact -Breasha Pruitt, Graduate with a minimum of a Core 40 Diploma Graduate with a 2.5 GPA Sign Affirmation senior year
