1 Electrical System Overview
Hanse Environmental Inc. By Peter Hanse 08/14/2006 Electrical System Overview Learning to Work Efficiently and Accurately

2 Introduction What is your knowledge of electricity?
How Does it Interact with other systems?

3 Agenda Areas Covered: General Control Electrical Failure Types
Maintenance

4 Overview AGREE Style

5 Vocabulary Electricity is a property of matter that results from the presence or movement of electric charge.1 Contactor is an electrical device used for controlling power flow. A contactor is activated by a control input which is a lower voltage / current than that which the contactor is switching.2 Relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under control of another electrical circuit.3 Solid-state relay (SSR) is a solid state electronic component that provides a similar function to an electromechanical relay but does not have any moving components, increasing long-term reliability.4 Relay Ladder Logic is a flow chart scheme where relays and contacts are used to indicate order of operations and processes to be performed.5

6 Our Electric System Simplicity is Key
Relays, Contactors, Timers kept to minimum PLC used only when needed Schematics in relay logic for easy service All wire numbered

7 High Power System Overview

8 Relay Logic System Overview

9 Instrument System Overview

10 Causes of System Failures
Relay Life Exceeded Caused by mechanical actions Device Malfunction Causes include dust, water, humidity, over temperature Wire loose Caused by vibration loosing terminal screws End of Life of Device Devices have known end of life ie JC E-Prom at 7-10 Years

11 Extending Air System Life
Keep Eclectic Compartments Clean and dry. PM Check Up Check Terminal screws Check Current Draws of Heaters Check Instruments operation

12 Summary Electricity is key to any chambers workings.
Diagnostic of problems do not have to take days if they are approached with logic
