38 COLOR CORPS TRAINING MANUAL OF THE SWORD THINK SAFETY DRAW SWORD*
CARRY SWORD (2 POSITIONS)* PARADE REST (ONE OR TWO HANDS)* SAFETY MARSHAL This long pointy thing can hurt you or others. Always have control of it. If need be have someone hold it for you (e.g. to turn off cell phone after drawing sword). “Draw Sword” Complete the movement with “Carry Sword” position. Per manual sword grip between thumb & forefinger, 3rd & 4th fingers back of the grip. guard flange facing to the right District 2 handle between middle and ring finger, as per manual thumb placed instead of beneath guard closer to the rear, it is over the guard further in front “Parade Rest” move left foot 10 in. to the left grasp sword with left hand to change grip of right hand so thumb is under guard drop the point of the sword directly to the front, near the ground (may have to grasp sword w/ left hand to change grip of right hand so thumb is under guard) guard flange to the right thumb along the grip return left hand to scabbard if needed * DEVIATION FROM NEW MANUAL

41 COLOR CORPS TRAINING MASS PROCEDURES REMINDER:
THERE SHALL BE NO MOVEMENT OF THE COLOR CORPS DURING THE CONSECRATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT SWORDS ARE PERMITTED. Talk about not “feeling” right, going forward during the consecration was one of those times.

42 COLOR CORPS TRAINING MASS PROCEDURES COMMUNION
WHEN RISING AFTER THE “GREAT AMEN” TURN CLOCKWISE AND PLACE GLOVES AND CHAPEAU ON THE PEW (MAY HOLD HANDS DURING “OUR FATHER”) AFTER CONGREGATION, PROCEED FORWARD TO RECEIVE COMMUNION, BODY (ON TONGUE OR IN HAND) & BLOOD. DO NOT HOLD UP COMMUNION IN ORDER TO BE THE LAST TO RECEIVE COMMUNION. Can give full attention to consecration. Cradle chapeau in left arm while removing gloves. Turning clockwise will avoid the scabbard striking the seat of the pew.

46 COLOR CORPS TRAINING MASS PROCEDURES PROCESSION WITH SWORDS
I was told it is good to have some humor in a presentation, but this was not intended to be the humor. The following slides are the low tech version. I hope to have video versions in the future.

47 Procession into Church ALTAR
PEWS PEWS C.C.C.-leads H.G. at “Carry Swords” down center aisle and “Halts” at front of church.

48 Procession into Church ALTAR
PEWS PEWS C.C.C.-does “About Face”. H.G.-then does “Face” to the center

49 Procession into Church ALTAR
PEWS PEWS C.C.C.-moves into line

50 Procession into Church ALTAR
PEWS PEWS C.C.C.-takes 1 step forward and “Present Sword”, take 2 steps back, while at “Present Sword” H.G.-“Present Sword” until all process through

PEWS PEWS When the C.C.C. wants the H.G. to return to the rear of the church: C.C.C. – centers himself on the 2 columns and steps toward the altar H.G. – march across front aisle to respective side aisle to the rear of the church

54 Procession into Church ALTAR

55 Procession into Church ALTAR
H.G.-enter pews from the side aisle and faces forward. C.C.C.-commands “Return Swords”, remove chapeau, etc. PEWS PEWS Recommend that Cmdr coordinates with whoever follows the H.G. into Mass and has them waits until the H.G. comes to “Present Sword” before processing in. Note that H.G. goes into the pew before returning swords and faces forward (toward the commander). This can be done. QUESTIONS?

56 COLOR CORPS TRAINING MASS PROCEDURES RECESSION WITH SWORDS

57 Recession from Church ALTAR PEWS PEWS
COMMANDER HAS CC PLACE CHAPEAU ON HEAD AND DRAW SWORD IN THE PEW. MAY START H.G. OUT OF PEWS. DO NOT GO DOWN CENTER AISLE UNTIL AFTER “FINAL BLESSING”. C.C.C.-leads H.G. at “Carry Swords” down center aisle and “Halts” at front of church.

58 Recession from Church ALTAR PEWS PEWS C.C.C.- does “About Face”.
New drill manual has H.G. “Draw Sword” and “Present Sword”. We will not do this. C.C.C.- does “About Face”. H.G.-then does “Face” to the center

63 Recession from Church (narrow main aisle) ALTAR PEWS PEWS
C.C.C.-marches between the columns to the rear of church H.G.-when C.C.C. passes 1st H.G. on C.C.C.’s right takes 1 step forward, face to rear of church, march to rear of church, in step with C.C.C.

64 Recession from Church (narrow main aisle) ALTAR PEWS PEWS
H.G.-when 1st H.G. on C.C.C.’s right takes 1 step to rear of church the opposite H.G. takes 1 step forward, turns to the rear of the church and marches to the rear of the church, in step with preceding H.G. Each succeeding pair of H.G. does the same.

65 Recession from Church (narrow main aisle) ALTAR PEWS PEWS
QUESTIONS? H.G.-when the H.G. marching to the rear of the church clears the last H.G. facing into the aisle he moves toward the pews on the side he was on to form 2 columns
