3
Blended Learning Initiative
What you need to know
4
What is Blended Learning?
Technology used for lecture material Viewed before class Class time is devoted to small group active learning Professors work with you instead of talk at you Learn material through problem solving Active learning
5
It is NOT online learning
What It Isn’t It is NOT online learning
6
Interactive Learning Constant interaction between peers, TA, and Instructor Get help immediately Asking questions is encouraged during class time Studies show more knowledge retention
7
Workload It will change in nature, not in magnitude
Interactive problem solving rather than passive text assignments Fewer in-class meetings
8
Real World Experience Blended learning style mimics a real job much better than previous lecture style Preparation for class is critical Prepare prior to class time to thrive in active learning environment
9
The Future Students will begin to see more courses offered with Blended Learning format Organized college-wide effort involving: Facilities Technology Course structure
10
Courses Under Development

ANY QUESTIONS?

Objectives high quality learning experience and engineering education to meet the needs of the 21st century, reduction in time to degree, increased number of engineering graduates per year. Hands-on instruction and teaching innovation (modernize curricula, use technology in teaching) Access to high demand courses, majors, and reduce bottlenecks that inhibit timely graduation As presented to and approved by the UW-System Board of Regents on 6/5/08
