Awards bachelor’s and graduate degrees Usually takes 4 years to complete

5 Types of Post-Secondary Schools

6 Public State College Funded by local and state governments
Usually offer lower tuition rates than private colleges Especially for students who are residents of that particular state Offer undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees Examples Boise State University University of Oregon

7 Private College Privately-owned accredited that aren’t supported by state funds Sources of funding include tuition, fees, and private sources Private donations can sometimes provide financial aid packages for students Offer associate, bachelor’s, and/or graduate degrees Examples College of Idaho Brigham Young University

8 Community College Take about 2 years to complete a degree program
Prepares you to transfer to a 4-year college to earn a bachelor’s degree Usually less expensive than traditional or private colleges Typically more affordable option with relatively low tuition Offer associate degrees and certificates Examples College of Western Idaho Treasure Valley Community College

9 Technical Centers and Colleges
Offers specialized training in a particular industry or career Culinary arts Dental hygiene Offer several certifications (some online) or associate degree Examples Eastern Idaho Technical College Carrington College

10 For-Profit College Functions more like a business
Offers a variety of degree programs which prepares students for a specific career Tend of have higher costs Could mean graduating with more debt Credits earned may not transfer to other colleges Examples Brown Mackie College Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

Prepares officers for the armed forces Requires recommendations and appointments (or endorsements) by members of Congress Degree programs offered are usually in the areas of: Business Engineering Technology Military science

Principal focus of this specialized school is the study of the visual, performing, and/or creative arts Accredited as a college Offers graduates a bachelor’s or master’s of fine arts degree Examples The Art Institute of Chicago New York Institute of Art
