2. What is the Exhibition? an individual, partner, or group inquiry
an inquiry that starts from personal interest and passions, and extends into real world global, national, and local issues
an inquiry that requires students to apply ALL their years of IB learning from TIS

4. Non-negotiable features…
The subject of the inquiry must be a real world issue.
This year the students were involved in the following stages of planning:
the organizing theme (How the World Works)
5th GRADE GENERAL CENTRAL IDEA: Technological advances impact the sustainability of resources.
the real world issues
The Exhibition should include:
examples of written work
oral presentations
examples of technology
performances in any medium – dance, drama, film, video, mixed media.

5. Non negotiable features continued…
Students must show an understanding of ALL 8 Key Concepts: form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility, reflection.
Students must demonstrate an understanding of the Central Idea.
Students must use Approaches to Learning from all 5 areas: social, research, self management, communication, thinking.
Students must show positive attitudes: appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation, creativity, confidence, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect, tolerance.
Students must demonstrate the Learner Profile: Thinker, Knowledgeable, Communicator, Risk-Taker, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Inquirer, Balanced

6. How much time do students spend working on the Exhibition?
The students will spend a number of weeks working on their inquiries to prepare for Exhibition.
Students will be meeting weekly with their Mentors to help guide and support their inquiries.
Time will be spent working in our Computer Lab as well, to support the entire process.

7. What about homework?
The amount of Exhibition homework may shift at any given time, based on the work accomplished in class.
The children should use their time at home to research and prepare for the work in class.
MOST of the work will be done in class so the teachers can track and assess progress, but due to time constraints, some work may be sent home.

9. How can parents help? Parents can:
keep informed about the process by reading and reflecting on work from student’s Exhibition Binders
support and encourage their children
provide knowledge or areas of expertise to their child
help to locate resources – people, places, media and information
Celebrate with the students by attending the final presentation – May 18th

10. How do we grade students work?
“Exhibitions are the best way to measure learning because they put the kids right in the midst of their own learning” Dennis Littky
We assess the process more than the product.
The students will keep Reflections throughout the Exhibition that show how their thinking, skills, and goals have developed.

11. Rubrics and Checklists
Rubrics and checklists will be developed to assess the following components of the exhibition process:
Learner Profile and Attitudes
Approaches to Learning (Transdisciplinary Skills)
Collaborative teamwork
Written research (Content)
Academic honesty (Proper citations)
Creative product
Oral presentations

12. Who will assess the work?
Children will self-assess using rubrics.
The classroom teachers will also develop rubrics to assess.
Peers will assess their classmates within their cooperative groups.
All of the areas assessed will be factored into core content areas on the report card.

13. Something for us all to remember…
Sometimes there will be a lot of discussion, but this will not result in anything tangible.
Students (and adults) need time and space to wonder about things and plan accordingly.
This is why we place so much emphasis on the students’ Reflections in their Exhibition Binders. They will show the understanding of concepts and application of skills (e.g. problem solving) more than the final product.
