3. Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in five sections:
Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities
Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests
Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad
At Gold level, you must do an additional Residential section, which involves working and staying away from home doing a shared activity
Personal programme to suit the participant, to fit around college, work and family commitments. All sections do not have to run simultaneously, it’s probably best to stagger sections to maintain commitment.

4. Hannah Kelly
Volunteering – Throughout the first year of sixth form on Tuesdays, I would help out at my old secondary school with the extra curricular PE activities such as Hockey, Netball and Rounder's. This helped with both my university application and my career aspiration of becoming a secondary school PE teacher.
Skill – I learned to cook various meals through the duration as this has prepared me for becoming more independent at university.
Residential – In the summer of 2016, I helped out at Nottingham Christian Youth Holidays. I led different activities throughout the week for the children (year 7 to 11) which meant my communicative skills were developed further.
Physical – I already played for Newmarket Hockey Club so I used this for my Physical section, then got my coach to sign it off each week. This could additionally be put on the university personal statement.
Academic Profile, other interests, what are you doing now? – I studied A level PE, Geography and English Lit & Lang at Sixth form and am going off to study Secondary school PE teaching at the University of Brighton (towards the end of September).

12. Year 1
Attend fortnightly sessions for support and guidance. Training and preparation for the expedition section.
Begin the volunteering, skill and physical sections.
Two canoe skills training days, March.
Practice Expedition in April (3 days) River Soar
Assessed Expedition in June (4 days) River Wye

13. Year 2
Organise and complete a residential activity (most participants do this over the summer holidays).
Continuation of the volunteering, skill and physical sections.
Finish each section with a completed assessors report.

14. £380 How much will it cost? The enrolment and administration fee
Two years of guidance and support
Canoe skills training (2 days)
Practice expedition (4 days/3 nights)
Assessed expedition (5 days/4 nights)
Campsite fees, canoe & paddle hire, instructors, supervisors, assessors, all transport and insurance.

Not included:
Food and personal camping kit for the expeditions (hiring is available)
