1 Welcome to Parent’s Forum
Our topic of discussion this evening is behavior

2 Why this is so important
All children have a right to work in a calm, supportive and purposeful atmosphere to make them feel safe and maximise their learning potential.

3 We had a good response to the questionnaires with over 60 returned
From them and the sample pupil questionnaires I have identified the key strengths and areas for development. 93% of the children feel happy and safe 91% of the respondents felt they had a clear understanding of what school expects from the children

4 I have identified some areas for development
Improve the clarity around the rewards and incentives program Develop the rewards and sanctions program Improve clarity around what school expects from the children

5 Children, staff and parents in partnership
The views of the staff are quite upsetting to hear ‘This lesson is boring’ ‘You are stupid’ ‘No I didn’t’ (when they have been seen) ‘You can’t tell me what to do’ Being walked away from when they are being spoken to, children talking constantly during their lessons. My staff work incredibly hard and they deserve better. There is a lack of respect for adults from a significant minority of children. These are not the children with specific needs!

6 Individual rewards - merit cards and the zone board
House points Individual rewards - merit cards and the zone board

7 Sanctions and consequences
Zone board Green card system

8 Low level behaviours Calling out Talking when the teacher is
Not demonstrating active listening Not following instructions the first time of asking

9 Children with particular needs
Many instances of emotional/behavioural difficulties are caused by diagnosed and undiagnosed medical/psychological issues. As the children in Beech class explained to me during our discussion ‘We aren’t all the same, some of need more help to behave than others’ It is very important that the understanding that teachers and staff have of children’s needs is respected. Just because a behaviour appears to go without being addressed does not mean that is the case.
