12. John speaks for all true disciples when he writes, "Come Lord Jesus" (Revelation 22:20), since those faithful are those "who have loved His appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8). Scoffers may mockingly ask, "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation" (2 Peter 3:4). But things will not continue forever as they are. Jesus will return, just as Revelation predicts.

Patmos is located 50 miles offshore of western Turkey. The island is about 10 miles long and 5 miles wide.
Since there is no further identification of the writer other than “John,” it presumes a familiarity on the reader’s part. It is therefore not just anyone named “John,” but the apostle John, who is now an old man.
Emperor Domitian was assassinated in A.D Late in his reign, he forced his subjects to address him as “Lord and God.” Those who refused were harshly punished. Many Christians were exiled to penal colonies or executed.
