2 Welcome! As a service member, you have had numerous training and job experiences, perhaps too many to recall easily and include on a job or college application. Fortunately, the military has made your life a little easier in this regard. The DD Form 2586, "Verification of Military Experience and Training," is created from your automated records on file. It lists your military job experience and training history, recommended college credit information, and civilian equivalent job titles. This document is designed to help you, but it is not a resume!

3 Purpose of this VMET Presentation and why YOU should care
To provide information to YOU the member, on obtaining the VMET form DD2586. Educating and ensuring that YOU the member has access to the document. How to find and properly utilize the DD2586. What information can you find in a VMET How you can utilize the information on the form to your fit your needs. I.e.; School, Job search, Civilian Certification after you separate from active duty.

4 Features and Use of VMET
Verification of Military Experience and Training Not an official transcript. Help build/prepare a Resume’ Assist you the SVM by Verifying previous Military experience and training to potential employers. Used for discussing civilian occupations related to military service. For example being a CCC… how does that translate to the real world/corporate America. Translate Military terminology..i.e your collaterals or job titles: Activity Manning Manager, training PO, INDOC PO, LS, YN, CCC. Establish capabilities with potential employers; what about you makes you valuable to a employer?

5 Educational Uses for VMET
Like the Job market, the VMET can be used for helping you achieve your educational goals after you separate from active duty. Helpful when applying to a college Vocational school List your Military experience and training history that could be translated to College Credit, Certification and Licensure. Any examples? CCC School = 9 college credits in General Education lower level classes.

6 How to maintain VMET ** very important you update and maintain your training and qualifications while on active duty ** Created from automated records on file. Keep copies of training, qualifications and schools in your “I love me binder” Errors on the VMET might be hard to correct, especially for separated or retired SVM. Missing information can be added through submissions to the Defense Manpower Date Center. Access VMET via current DOD Common Access Card (CAC), DS log on credentials, or have a current DFAS “mypay” PIN.
