0.75-2% prevalence in the general population Variable duration Associated risk factors Gender, increasing age, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, thyroid dysfuncton and diabetes mellitus. Management – controversial and related to experience

Meta-analysis Literature search 12th February 2014
Search terms ‘frozen shoulder’, ’adhesive capsulitis AND shoulder’ 18 studies identified 13 for prevalence of AC in DM 5 compared AC prevalence in DM to controls. Random effects model was used with 95% confidence intervals

Findings Prevalence of IAC in DM of 13.4% (95% CI 10.2-17.2%)
No difference between type 1 or type 2 DM or insulin therapy Prevalence of DM in a population with IAC 30% (95%CI 24-37%) Patients with DM are 5x more likely than controls to develop IAC
