Colossians 3.1-8: Christian discipline
Living for Christ in the world has to do with: Our hearts - what we love, v1 - “set your hearts on things above...” Our minds - what we think, v2-4 - “set your minds on things above...” Our desires - what we are corrupted by, v5-6 - “put to death whatever [is] your earthly nature...” Our habits - what we are mastered by, v7-8 - “rid yourselves of all such things...” “How lovely is your dwelling-place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God... Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” (Psalm , 10-11) “Jesus, my breath, my life, my Lord, take of my soul the inmost part; let vision, mind and will be stored with Christ the Master of my heart, my breath, my life, my Lord.” (T. Dudley-Smith) “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” (Matthew 8.2-3) To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps... He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter )
