Definition of Coaching

Creating Awareness Assessments: A variety of assessments are available to support the coaching process, depending upon the needs and circumstances of the individual or business. Assessments provide objective information that can enhance self- awareness, as well as awareness of others and their circumstances; provide a benchmark for evaluating progress. (Source: International Coaching Federation) Personality Tests / Assessment Tools : many different instruments available to provide insight to an individual's character or psychological makeup -- how people perceive the world and make decisions. (Nature vs Nuture??) Personality Tests: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator [Extravert/Introvert, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving], Hogan Personality Inventory, DISC Assessment [Dominance; Influence; Steadiness and Conscientiousness], Gallup Strength Finder, etc. 360o Assessments: (Self, Peers, Boss, Subordinates): Center for Creative Leadership® Assessment, OPM Leadership 360 TM, Denison Leadership Development Survey, Multi-Source assessment & Feedback (MSAF) – Army’s Training & Doctrine Command, etc. Mindset: Fixed vs Growth Disclaimer: Army does not endorse any specific Personality Test or 360 Assessment Tool.

[arrogant, impulsive, attention-seeking, forgetful] Choleric (Element: Air) Take-charge, dynamic leader. Confident, decisive, ambitious, competitive. [domineering, intense, easily-angered] Phlegmatic (Element: Water) Steady, amicable, dependable, polite, calm, even-tempered. [avoids conflict, lacks confidence, lazy] Melancholic (Element: Earth) Reflective, introspective, very kind, considerate, highly creative. [inflexible, pessimistic]

Organizer Movement: Hold Form
Essential for: Does the right thing. Moves step by step. Proper. Likes order, plans, lists. Neat and tidy. Stable and reliable. Organizer center: * Too much Organizer: Gets rigid, stuck. Puts form over substance. Can’t keep up.

Collaborator Movement: to and fro
Essential for: Engages people. Has fun! Rolls with the punches. Sees both sides. Works around obstacles. Plays in the give-and-take. Builds teams and networks. Collaborator center: * Too much Collaborator: Waffles on decisions. Gets too political. Is not taken seriously.

Visionary Movement: extend
* Visionary center: Essential for: Goes with the flow Lets go. Thinks in leaps. Sees the big picture. Seeks harmony, essence. Thinks strategically. Future-oriented. Too much Visionary: Drifts off. Lacks follow- through. Too disorganized.
