Additional Support Mrs. Ormisher and Miss Ashford will be working in Year 1 every morning to support the reading groups, maths and phonics. Mrs Dooley, Miss Sandison, Mrs Clow and Mrs Slater will also be working in Year 1.

Morning Routine Thank you for bringing your children into the classroom to settle them into Year 1. After half term we would like the children to come onto the playground in the mornings and line up with the rest of the school. We trialled this last year and it was very successful. A member of staff will be on the playground to supervise children from 8.40.

Reading At least 2 Guided Reading sessions with an adult each week.
One of these sessions will be linked to a book from a colour band which will be changed regularly. The other from ‘real books’ during Book Club on a Wednesday. Books colour banded – different Oxford Reading Tree levels within the same band Reading homework set for the following session Please write in reading record! Promote different types of guided reading – examples – breadth of text- scheme restricting and not always stimulating- once the ch get more fluent

Reading Many other opportunities throughout the week – whole class reading, story time, other subject areas etc. Encourage a wide range of home reading activities

Handwriting Cursive style Introduced from Year 1 to Year 6

Phonics Regular phonics sessions
Follows on from the sounds taught in Reception

French Taught by Mrs Cox Approximately half an hour each week

Classroom help- e.g. Outside Area, visits, ICT, Art Days (as the children become more settled) Mystery Reader (Please sign up before you leave!)
