1 Meet the Team St. Michael’s Catholic School Primary Phase

2 Welcome to Year 2 The team this year is:

4 PE days Our PE lesson days are
Monday Tuesday For PE lessons, children will need: tracksuit and bottoms, trainers, socks, indoor plimsolls, P.E. t- shirt and shorts.

5 Home learning The children will receive home learning activities on:
Friday to be tested on the following Friday (spellings and times tables) Please ensure that your child reads every night. Books will be changed: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (to go home on Friday)- if the reading record is not signed we will not change the book. Please support your child with his / her homework. This might be sitting with them to help, hearing them read or just keeping them on track for learning their spellings and times tables. Please continue to practice high frequency words regularly with your child!

6 Assessment Teachers will continue to assess pupils’ understanding in the wide range of ways that we have done previously – including questioning, marking and use of school assessments. We will continue to report to parents and carers annually whether pupils are working at, beyond or towards age related expectations for their year group.

7 SATs As Year 2 is the official end of KS1 all children will be required to undertake the government assessments (SATs) which are compulsory. KS1 SATs will commence the week beginning 21st May 2018; all children are required in school that week, any appointments need to be made at a different time. Illness on the day is an exception to this! The SATs include: mathematics (arithmetic and reasoning) and reading. Writing and science will be teacher assessed. However, all subjects will be reported officially in the same way to you and Bucks County Council. Children will be awarded either working towards, working at or working beyond age related expectations for end of KS1, in each of these areas.

9 Trips and visits We will give you good notice for trips so that payments can be processed in time for your child to attend on parentpay. Please complete the annual consent form but a specific consent form for any trip must also be completed otherwise we cannot take your child. This year we are planning a trip based on our Science and Literacy work on habitats – look out for further information nearer the time

10 General routines School starts promptly at 8.45am so please ensure that children are here on time. There are potential road works linked to the Daws Lane development so allow extra time for your journey! Children leave at 3.10pm in Key Stage 1. Please let us know about changes to end-of-day arrangements as soon as possible and preferably in writing. Any child who is not collected by 3.30pm will be taken to the main reception and parents will need to collect from there. Once children are dismissed to you please exit promptly from the school site (unless waiting for an older sibling in the juniors). This is to avoid accidents and over crowding. 12 How to communicate with us
Most teachers are out at pick up time with at least one member of the staff team from each year group available at this time. ing the or contacting the office staff. 13 Snacks and lunches Children will continue to have hot lunches – IF REQUESTED – in the canteen. Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 continue to have fruit or vegetables provided for snack time- no need to bring own fruit. Regarding birthdays, any sweets to be given to the teacher to be given out to the class before dismissal. Children will eat these once dismissed to parents, to allow parents to give permission.

14 Snacks and lunches Children can bring a water bottle to school. Water is also provided in classrooms and is available in both playgrounds. Reception and KS1 children can sign up for milk through the ‘Cool Milk’ website.

15 Uniform Full uniform policy is available on the website. Some reminders are: Please label all items so that anything lost can be returned. No jewellery is permitted. If girls have recently had their ears pierced, they should have studs covered for the first six weeks after which earrings should not be worn in school. Boys’ haircuts should be a similar length all over. Shavings, mohicans and extreme styles are not permitted. If boys have these styles, they should be allowed to grow out and not be repeated. Girls should have blue or white hair decorations only and these should not be overly decorative, no oversized bows. All long hair MUST be tied back during the school day. Proper schools shoes only are permitted. Children may not wear trainers.
