Curriculum Myths and Legends – Earth and Space and Forces –
Autumn term topic where we study into the life and legacy of ancient Greece, including the myths and legends they have left. The children will work on retelling their own myths and legends, creating a range of characters based on their knowledge of ancient Greece. During computing, children will be creating a game, using Scratch, that includes a Greek hero and monster. They will be using Art to depict their characters and set the scenes. Earth and Space and Forces – In science, we will be looking at the cycle of day and night, planets, moon and seasons. The children will then undertake experiments to show different forces. We will be going to INTECH to consolidate their learning on Friday 14th October.

Curriculum The Victorians – Ironbridge residential –
This is in the spring term, when we immerse ourselves into the lives of the Victorians. Our focus is the Industrial Revolution and how this was a major turning point in History. The children will use a range of sources to identify these changes, including various texts and videos. In writing we will be putting ourselves into the shoes of the Victorians, including a range of drama activities and stimulating texts. As we near our residential, the children will look at maps of the area, the places we will visit and decide the best route for our coaches to take. Ironbridge residential – 28th February – 3rd March 2017

Curriculum Relationship and Sex education
As part of our Science and PSHCE curriculum, children are required to understand the changes that happen during puberty. In the spring term, our Science focus will be ‘Life cycles and Living Things, Animals including Humans’ which compliments our work in PSHCE. Your children will watch videos from Channel 4’s Living and Growing. These videos are used widely throughout schools as they are very child friendly and introduce the topic at their level. The videos this year are in the same series as the ones they watched in year 4. We will hold a drop in meeting about this nearer the time should you have any questions.

Curriculum Our Environment
During our summer term we look at the world around us, studying major rivers from across the world as well as focussing upon the River Tillingbourne. We research and develop our understanding of how rivers are formed and will be able to discuss the structure of a river from source to sea. Throughout the term we explore the river in our local area, visiting Leith Hill and the Gunpowder Mills.
