We need a solid foundation from which to do our work in violence prevention and safety.
We need implementation of the Discipline Foundation Policy: School-Wide Positive Behavior Support

6. This is a policy developed by a collaborative team.
There has been much discussion about who has written this policy so let’s clear this up first! It was a collaborative team of staff (teachers, administrators and support staff) and parents. Input was given by student focus groups, diverse task forces and others. This policy is based on research in violence prevention and system change using the three tiered approach.

8. How is the Discipline Foundation Policy organized?
Three phases:
Adoption (phase 1) includes ownership and commitment of everyone in the District.
Implementation (phase 2) may be 2 -3 years.
Maintenance (phase 3) is used to institutionalize practices and collect and analyze data to inform/tailor school practices and support.

Guiding Principles and Student Expectations are clearly defined and consistent for all students and staff across the District.
Schools must establish what appropriate behavior “looks like” in each setting in the school.
